Prospect Spotlight: 2018 Mac McClung
For the past two years the mixtape companies have been traveling across the country for highlights that eventually go viral on certain guys. Last year it was unsigned 2018 senior Zion Williamson and this year it is 2018 Georgetown commit, Mac McClung. Ever since the high school season began, Mac has been playing in sold out gyms and standing room only games. His high school team even had to move to a different gym to play home games because the crowds were so big. After his 33 point performance on Saturday at the Chance Harman Classic we got to speak with him on a variety of things.
“I think this season is going well, we are just kind of learning from every game and just trying to get better everyday in practice and look forward to playing down the road.”
Mac knows how big of a national spotlight he is under and he has been learning a lot from it.
“You know I think it is good. It is good and bad but at the same time I am just tying to use it as a positive and I appreciate everybody following me and you know I think when there is a lot of hype, there also comes a lot of hate so you know that is what it is.”
There were many people that got to his game on Saturday hours before he played and left after he played because he was the sole show in his game, “You know I appreciate all the love a lot, it is fun to play in this type of environment and I am glad for me and my teammates that we got to play in this showcase.”
McClung was once a Rutgers commit, earlier in the fall he backed off that pledge and then committed to Patrick Ewing and Georgetown.
“I love Coach Ewing, I love what Georgetown is about and I think they are on the rise and I just want to be a big impact from the start.”
Something that really impressed Mac on his visit to Georgetown was how he was told he will be used in the Hoyas system, “That is what really sold me with Coach Ewing. He sat me down on my visit and showed me when he was a coach of the Charlotte Hornets and how they ran it with Kemba Walker and he kind of said he wants me to be that guy.”
When asked what Georgetown fans can expect out of him next year, he said, “Someone that gives it all they got, thats the number one thing, someone that leaves it all on the floor.”
