Noah Slagter broke the Willmar scoring record Thursday
Noah Slagter became the all time leading scorer at Willmar last night scoring 16 in a win over Rocori improving the Cards to 11-0 on the year and leaders of the CLC.
“So far we have been playing very well,” Slagter told Prep Hoops. “We are 11-0 right now and we are continuing to get better every day. We have been putting up a lot of points on the scoreboard this year from getting out and running so I love how we have been transitioning. We have also been out rebounding teams often this year.”
Drey Dirksen and Slagter are both averaging over nine boards a game and both scoring in double figures each night. Noah is putting up 21.5 points a contest playing only partial games.
“I feel that my defense has been a lot better than previous years,” Noah said. “I am turning into a better on ball defender. I have also improved my shooting percentages in all areas on the floor.”
Willmar is 11-0 right now but even more than that, they are crushing people. The closest game was against New London-Spicer (67-56 Willmar win) while Willmar has impressively crushed Big Lake, St. Cloud Tech, Rocori, and many others. Willmar is winning games by an average of 24 points a night.
“We have so much talent on this team and it benefits us a lot,” Noah said. “Most of us are returning players that have had varsity minutes so that is very helpful with guys having experience and knowing how to play at a varsity level.
“Our depth has also been big for us this year. We tend to wear teams down in the second half because we are always bringing the pressure.”
Based on the success the team has had Willmar of course has large goals. Next up is games with Fergus Falls, Sauk Rapids, Brainerd, and Alexandria and if Willmar gets through that group the sky is the limit.
“Some of our goals as a team are to make a deep run in the playoffs and to win the CLC this year,” Noah said. “Individually I want to average a double double with points and rebounds. I also want to continue to be a better leader for my team.”
Noah has made his college decision and the entire UMAC should beware.
“I actually signed with Northwestern College this fall to play basketball. I did have quite a few football and basketball coaches contact me.
“I went on some campus tours but in the end I thought the education and basketball program at Northwestern was the right fit for me.”
