5 Takeaways : Holly Hill Academy vs Clarendon Hall
The road led Prep Hoops to the SCISA 1-A matchup of Holly Hill Academy vs Clarendon Hall last night in Summerton. Clarendon Hall sits right off the I-95 interstate. Head Coach Anthony Reitenour took over the Saints program a year ago. The Saints cruised to a victory over the Raiders last night 80-61 to move to 11-3 on the season.
MVP : Zyan Gilmore (2020) – Clarendon Hall (pictured on front)
Gilmore has been the go-to guy all season long for the Saints. Gilmore finished tonight with 33 points and 9 rebounds. Gilmore scored 41 points in a game last week. Gilmore wants to and prefers attacking the basket. Gilmore is not afraid to come down in transition and pull-up from 24 feet which he did on 3 straight trips down the floor in the 3rd quarter.
Gilmore pulled up and drained a 3-pointer with 3:26 left in the 3rd quarter to make the score 55-35. Gilmore connected on 2 more three pointers in the 50 seconds to make the score 61-35 with 2:36 left in the 3rd quarter.
Gilmore plays with a lot of confidence and has the green light to shoot it. Gilmore played last summer with the Orangeburg Xpress on the AAU circuit.
Best Defensive Performance : Tyrece Mitchum (2020) – Clarendon Hall
Mitchum plays in the paint for the Saints and his the older brother of Horton. Mitchum just does all the little things around the cup and finished the night with 11 points. Mitchum plays physical and has a great set of shoulders. Mitchum generates a lot of his points on activity around the cup.
Best Underclassmen : Kylic Horton (2022) Clarendon Hall
WOW!!! Horton is just 13 years old and currently stands 6’3. Horton is not a post player and will play in the back court somewhere. Horton has tremendous length and wingspan. Horton brought the ball up the floor several times tonight for the Saints.
Horton tends to get a little fancy with the ball at times and seemed a bit passive on the perimeter shooting it tonight. Horton finished with 7 points but, has a great basketball IQ to set up his teammates on the floor. Horton came into the game averaging 16.1 ppg this season. Prep Hoops thinks he could be a very good player down the road and he’s just a 8th grader currently.
Best Small College Prospect : Dylan Way (2018) – Clarendon Hall
Way is a very solid student in the classroom for the Saints. Way likes to work the corners from side to side. Way connected on several three pointers on his Way to 15 points. Way is a great small college prospect. Way played Quarterback on the Saints Football Team (8 man)
Tangibles :
Demetrius Abraham (2018) and Grayson Hopkins (2019) led the Raiders in scoring with 18 and 17 points respectively. Abraham 6’1 was just a junk yard dog around the cup finishing in the paint and great energy guy. Hopkins 6’2 hit some shots on the perimeter for the Holly Academy Raiders. Both players play football for the Raiders.
Holly Hill Academy famous alum is New York Yankee Outfielder Brett Gardner.
The Saints concession stand was selling Chicken Fingers, Mozzarella Sticks, French Fries last night a kids dream.
The Saints could make a strong run to the SCISA 1-A State Finals this year and possibly meet the favorite Anderson Christian.
