Da’Vae Hughley Recruiting Update (2018)
The East Hamilton wing Da’Vae Hughley provided PrepHoopsTN with his latest recruiting contacts.
Hughley chatted back in September about a few options. Since that time some of the teams have fallen away, while a couple new schools hopped into the mix.
“The (Alabama A&M) coaches have been talking to me,” said Hughley. “The coaches said they are going to come down and watch me play before the season is over with.
Da’Vae Hughley discusses his AAMU recruitment with Associate Head Coach Dylan Howard.
“He said I would be on the wing, like a 2/3.”
AAMU is a program struggling to find its way. As January turns in to February, the Bulldogs are merely 2-20.
“From my understanding they are not doing really well,” said Hughley. “They are like rebuilding their team.
Honestly I don’t think they have won a game yet. Last time I saw them against Michigan they
were 0-11.”
Hughley watched Michigan-AAMU on television. He liked their system and can envision
“They kind of play four-out,” said Da’Vae Hughley. “I watching the positions that he said I would be playing. I feel
like I fit in that system pretty well, in the way they play.”
New Blood
South Carolina State is the latest school to take an interest in the East Hamilton starter.
“I just recently heard from them,” said Da’Vae Hughley. “I just heard from them like a week ago maybe. I haven’t
looked them up.”
According to Hughley the Bulldogs will send out a coach to evaluate him.
Could the Bulldogs offer? It seems they will want to get an in-person look first. Both South Carolina State and AAMU are hovering around offering.
Another new pursuing program is Freed-Hardiman (D2).
“They contacted me too.”
Is there a preference between a poor-performing D1 program or a successful D2 squad?
“I would choose the team that I know that I can get a lotta reps in,” said Da’Vae Hughley. “The record doesn’t really
matter to me at this time. I just want to go to the best place that is a fit for me. And that they show they are very interested in me.
A coach from Tennessee Wesleyan came to East Hamilton’s basketball game at McMinn.
“He was talking to me and said he is very interested,” said Da’Vae Hughley. “He said that if I keep playing well they are going to offer me.”
Unlike the other teams, Tennessee Wesleyan “would like (him) at the 3, maybe a little 4. Predominately the 3.”
By shooting around 40% from deep, Da’Vae Hughley is proving he can survive on the wing offensively. This adds value to him as a college prospect.
