Holiday Invitational: Prospect Evaluations
The Holiday Invitational Tournament in Rancho Mirage High School provided a great look at a lot of new faces along with some of the state’s best. The first day of the event was really solid and gave us some solid game and prospect matchups. Here is our breakdown of some the best players on the floor.
Carson Tuttle – 5’10 PG 2018 – Kamiak knights
Caron was really good and this one using his strength and toughness around the rim at different times. When he got his jump shot going in the second half it really helped to spark the offense. He’s going to have to find more ways to balance out his game with his ability to drive being a big weapon for him but only lightly used. He’s a big, physical guard and can play for a lot of different styles.
Pierre Crockrell – 6’1 PG 2019 – Garfield High School
Pierre is a big guard with a good perimeter jumper. His shot wasn’t on early but picked it up later in the half. He’s really good off the catch and can get hot pretty quickly. He was also doing really well getting to the paint and scoring over bigs. Has the chance to be a big contributor in the right system in college. Already considered a High D1 Recruit finding the right school is key.
Andrew Kenny – 6’5 SF 2018 – Bellevue High School
Andrew was a do-it-all type player today. Wasn’t many, if any, plays run for him but rebounded the ball really well and was good in transition with his handles and finishing ability at the rim. Was more physical and tough than we saw a year ago. He’s a guy that is going to give you some mismatch ability on the wing but if you can play a little uptempo, he’s plenty capable of being a playmaker with his passing ability.
PJ Fuller – 6’4 SG 2018 – Garfield High School
Fuller is a long, lean wing who gives you so many tools and is just now starting to hit his stride. He was really good rebounding the ball and while he does more of his work on the inside, he has the handles to bring the ball up or create on the perimeter for others. He will have to continue to improve on his pull up jumper but if that ever becomes a real part of his game, he would be a stellar prospect. Just needs that other dimension but one to dream on a bit.
Marjon Beauchamp – 6’6 SF 2020 – Garfield High School
Marjon had some of his best games and was pretty solid off the bounce and in the post. He didn’t really attack as a shooter but more into the lane and along the baseline. He’s been balancing out his offense pretty well and in this game he was taking advantage of those looks that he got from Pierre distributing the ball. Did well to play within himself too.
J’Raan Brooks – 6’9 PF 2018 – Garfield High School
Brooks is a long, big strong force in the paint and a bunch of value on the defensive end. He’s pretty solid when slashing to the rim. His finishes at an elite level in traffic and through contact. On the defensive end, he does a great job with blocking shots and creating space for rebounds. Fairly raw still with his offensive skill set but all the other areas are pretty solid. Some shooting development and a little clean up on the block and he will be the next big name at ST JOHNS UNIVERSITY next year.
Ryder Kavanagh – 6’2 PG 2018 – Lake Stevens High School
Ryder is a long, lean guard with good size and some length. He showed he can hit a jumper off the catch and create along the arc to get a shot off as well. He went for three triples in the game and really caused issues on the defensive end. From the perimeter, he is a guy that will be able to make plays. Not a big off the bounce guy that will drive. However, he will add some value as a defensive asset with his length. If he gets better in lane, he could really take off.
Lezjon Bonds – 6’1 PG 2018 – Lincoln High School
Lezjon looks much improved from a year ago in many areas. He is taller and a little longer as well. He was more about attacking off the bounce. He’s still going to be more aggressive on the offensive end. Showed his jumper a little today and hit a trio of threes. With time, he is really solid but has improved his selection. When he can create more opportunities, his offense should shine at the next level.
Willie Thomas – 6’6 SG 2018 – Lincoln High School
This was another really high end game from Willie who is really putting together a great senior season. He continues to have all of his game working and is really difficult to stop as a scorer. He can play off the bounce and the mid-range game has really improved over the last few months. So much of a bigger and better part of his game. Such an adept scorer now.
Tyler Cronk – 6’8 PF 2018 – Kent Ridge High School
This was a solid game for Tyler, with some high points in the middle. He was really aggressive going at the rim for a little bit and was able to draw a ton of contact and finish through it. Where he has gotten better is with his release on his jumper and ability to create off the bounce to use it. He was doing some work in the middle of the court, able to break down defenders to get off a clean shot. If his jumper is that solid, his upside is much higher.
