Standouts: City of Palms Classic (Day 5)
Day 5 of the City of Palms Classic was jampacked with eight games starting at 9 a.m. ET.
Here are the standouts from all the Friday action.
Jordan McCabe (Wisconsin Kaukauna)
McCabe became the second player this week to record a 40-point game in an 85-83 win over Mars. It just so happened to be exactly 42 points, the same number that McEachern guard Sharife Cooper scored in an overtime win on Wednesday over Hudson Catholic. McCabe hit 13-of-21 from the field including 7-of-9 from beyond the arc. The senior West Virginia commit is as smooth as they come.
Robby Carmody (Pennslyvania Mars)
Notre Dame commit Robby Carmody filled the stat sheet with a 39-point, seven rebound and five steal performance. The senior guard made 14-of-23 from the field. After netting 30 points the previous day, it is easy to put Carmody into the category of one the best in this tournament. He has a knack for a big play and is highly gifted in transition.
Bryan Antoine (New Jersey Ranney)
Antoine dropped 30 points in the opening game of the day, a 66-49 win over Orlando Christian Prep. He shot 9-of-20 from the field and possessed the abilities of a true high-major Division I player. He is being recruited by all of the top schools and it makes sense. He's only going to get better from his junior season on.
Emmitt Williams (Oak Ridge)
Williams had his charges dropped from pending case on Thursday, per the Orlando Sentinel. He played a tough game in a loss to Memphis East last night, but he looked more calm, cool and collective on Friday with 24 points, nine rebounds, four assists and two steals. Williams is always determined to make the big play.
Spencer Freedman (California Mater Dei)
The senior Harvard commit was on a tear in the afternoon fifth place semifinal. He made 6-of-7 three's and hit 8-of-11 shots from the field in the first half to score 22 points. He finished the day with 29 points and five assists. Smart and gritty, Freedman is a true floor general at point guard with his intelligence and loud voice.
Moses Brown (New York Archbishop Molloy)
Brown hadn't played up to par this week but in an early afternoon matchup with Alabama Mountain Brook, he did his part with 25 points and 11 rebounds. He shot 10-of-14 from the field. It is scary to see a 7'2" big man shoot that well. The senior is being groomed for the future.
Jahvon Quinerly (New Jersey Hudson Catholic)
Quinerly played his butt off in a loss to Oak Ridge. He scored 25 points, added seven rebounds and had three assists and a steal. Quite frankly, Quinerly couldn't be stopped late in the game even though everyone in the gym knew he was going to take the shot. He made three 3's in the fourth quarter alone. The senior is a true Division I point guard who seems to never get rattled.
Sharife Cooper (Georgia McEachern)
After adding 21 and 42 points in his first two games of the tournament, the sophomore sensation had a nice night with 26 points on 14-of-28 shooting from the field in a 71-63 loss to University. Cooper also had six assists, three steals and two rebounds. Even though he connected on just 2-of-9 from beyond the arc, Cooper made it look easy attacking the rim and he is a true high-Division I player in the making.
Tavias Fagan (Georgia Upson-Lee)
Two nights after struggling from the field (16 points on 8-of-22 shooting), the 6'3" senior found his groove in the Signature Series final against Corbin. Fagan recorded 34 points on 14-of-28 shooting from the field. He is an athlete whose game translates well at the two spot in college.
Drue Drinnon (University)
The senior New Mexico commit had his best performance of the City of Palms Classic thus far. He shot 8-of-13 from the field, adding 20 points. Drinnon went to the hoop often, hit from outside and was quick and smart with the ball. He was clutch for the Sharks.
Andrew Taylor (Kentucky Corbin)
Taylor, a senior Furman commit has a smoothness about him. He's really sound with the ball in his hands and makes smart decisions on when to head to the basket or dish it out. Taylor netted 26 points in a 73-71 win over Upson-Lee. Taylor can be used at both guard positions in college.
