PHI Daily Dish: A Huge Set Of Friday Games Kick Off Holiday Tournaments
This Week’s Top Results:
Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday we saw a slate of games that we pretty good but there just wasn’t much action on these nights. We highlight the top games from those three days below.
Attucks 56, Bedford North Lawrence 53
The best game on a light Thursday pitted the #1 3A team against Bedford North Lawrence, a team that is on the rise. BNL is a young team still and Attucks is senior laden. We saw a great game as Attucks survived in Lawrence county.
Greenwood 51, Beech Grove 48
Beech Grove came into this one undefeated but they hadn’t really been tested yet. This game was their team as Greenwood is a one loss team with a lot of offensive weapons. Both teams struggled to shoot the ball and Beech Grove lost on a buzzer beater.
Marion 71, Manual 69
Marion is a bit of a surprise this year. They have started the year on a fast note much like Manual did. This was a good game between two teams that could meet in the postseason and Marion continues to roll. Not a surprise as they are well coached and have a few super young guys.
Martinsville 57, Indian Creek 50
Martinsville was tested by Indian Creek and came away with a win. They continue to play solidly even though they don’t have any major talent on their team. They’ll be tested this upcoming weekend though as they host their home tournament. Indian Creek is a solid team but may struggle against teams that are strong fundamentally.
Frankton 86, Wapahani 70
Frankton needed this win to solidify their win over Oak Hill and they did so. Wapahani is a very good team in their own right and put up a good fight but Frankton had the slight advantage at home in this one. A really good result here for Frankton.
This Week’s Top Performers:
Tayson Parker (Northwestern) – 37 points
Ali Ali (East Noble) – 31 points, 10 rebounds
Nick Walker (Henryville) – 26 points
Friday’s Top Games:
We will see our first holiday shootout of the season today and it is a great combination of region teams and Fort Wayne teams as well as some others. It is a huge Friday night schedule and there are a ton of really good matchups.
Mount Veron (Fortville) vs. New Castle
Mt. Vernon is playing much better this year than expected and New Castle is undefeated thus far this year. This will be a good test for both teams as New Castle is looking to win to prove themselves. Mt. Vernon (Fortville) has struggled against teams that are good and they will look to avoid their third conference loss of the year
Pike vs. New Albany
New Albany has been on a roll after losing to Floyd Central and now they have a huge test as Pike makes the trip down. Pike has been very underwhelming but they still are a pretty good team and should be able to run with New Albany. We’ll see if they can stop Romeo Langford though as they don’t have a true lockdown guy.
Shenandoah vs. Frankton
Frankton has another tough game here as they face off with Shenandoah. Frankton has been running the gauntlet recently and Shenadoah is just as good as the teams they have been playing. Frankton should win this one but Shenandoah isn’t a pushover. Will be another super game at Frankton.
Valparasio vs. Fort Wayne North
The best game of the day at Marion is the 6:30 game. FW North has been a lot worse than people though this year and if they don’t take this game seriously, they could easily lose. Valparasio is a solid team and they will be looking for a statement win. If there is any game that is sure to be entertaining on the schedule today, this is it.
Sullivan vs. Edgewood
A good matchup between two schools that while in the middle of nowhere, have a strong history of basketball success. Sullivan is off to a really good start this year and Edgewood is solid as always. Look for Sullivan to go into Edgewood and come away with a big win going into the winter tournament season.
