Palmetto State : Panther Classic Part 1
Prep Hoops took in the action yesterday at the 7th Annual Panther Classic held at Carolina Forest HS in Myrtle Beach. The event featured 16 teams throughout the Southeast.
The 3rd and final day of the event started off with Christ Church (Greenville) vs Cathedral Academy (North Charleston) in the morning opener. The Christ Church Cavaliers feature a very young roster. John Butler (2021) and Rayshon Harrison (2020) both are the two members of this squad to keep a eye on down the road. Harrison and Samuel Perry both led the way with 14 points in the Cavaliers win 61-53 victory. Butler 6’11 added 12 points and 5 blocks in the win.
Christian Waring (2018) kept Cathedral Academy in the game with 14 points.
Prep Hoops first saw Butler back in the spring playing AAU with Team United and Harrison with Team South Carolina. Harrison played this past September in the Prep Hoops 250 Expo in Myrtle Beach.
Low Country Leadership out of Hollywood, SC pulled a stunner in defeating 4-A Myrtle Beach HS 72-71. Donnell Bowens (2019) hit a 3 pointer at the buzzer to win the game for the Gators. Bowens finished with 24 points.
Robert Swanson (2018) led the Seahawks with 27 points in the defeat. Swanson had scored 36 points the night before vs Bluffton. Swanson is a unsigned senior point guard with very solid academics. Blake John finished with 12 points for the Seahawks while sophomore sensation Emorie Knox added 10 points.
Juwan Moody (2018) and Jimmy Nichols (2018) provided the firepower for the Conway Tigers to win the first semifinal game on Friday at the Panther Classic. The Conway Tigers duo helped the Tigers beat Loudoun Valley (VA) 59-46 to advance to the championship game. The Tigers moved to 10-0 on the season and are currently ranked #2 in the 5-A State Rankings.
Moody is headed to East Carolina University next season for football while Nichols has signed with Providence.
