Hot & Cold: Week 4
This season, we are going to recap each week with a look at those teams that are playing well and those that aren’t so much. We breakdown our Hot 5 and Cold 5 each week looking into why those teams are making our list on either end. Now, our Hot and Cold teams of the week.
Hot 5:
Team: |
Wins |
Martinsville (4-2) |
Plainfield, Indiana M&S, Eastern Greene |
East Noble (5-0) |
Churubusco, Columbia City |
Evansville Bosse (6-0) |
Ev. Memorial, Washington, Culver Academies |
Marion (6-1) |
Liberty Christian, Kokomo, Bishop Dwenger |
Fort Wayne North (6-2) |
Villa Angela-St. Joseph (OH), Fort Wayne Snider |
Breakdown: This past week, we saw some odd teams get a couple three win weeks. Martinsville, a team we haven’t thought of yet as a good team this year, just moved to 4-2 after wins over Indiana M&S, Eastern Greene, and Plainfield. The Plainfield win is huge and should provide a good boost to their confidence. You also saw Marion pick up three wins. This is a team that has some talent but not a ton of it yet. However, three key wins this week, the biggest over Kokomo, should draw some statewide attention. East Noble is having a great year, now 5-0, and just beat two really solid small school programs. Not huge wins but ones that you don’t lose if you are actually as good as your record suggests. Evansville Bosse also had a three-win week with three massive wins. Beating up on Memorial was big because they will see them again, likely in Sectionals. Culver is a very good team and could be a potential 3A State Championship foe. Fort Wayne North also picked up a couple quality wins over a very young FW Snider team but also a solid VASJ team out of Ohio after a long travel day Saturday. They needed a bounce back week and they got it.
Cold 5:
Team: |
Losses |
Plainfield (4-3) |
Martinsville, Terre Haute South |
Evansville Memorial (3-2) |
Ev. Bosse, Jeffersonville |
Michigan City (2-4) |
East Chicago Central, Penn |
Lapel (2-5) |
Beech Grove, New Castle |
Westfield (3-4) |
Tipton, Noblesville |
Breakdown: On this list are a bunch of teams trending down after they were projected to have big seasons. Plainfield was 4-1 heading into the week and looked like they could be a legit threat in their Sectional but you can’t lose to Martinsville and you need to win against a decent THS team. Two losses that bring them back down to earth a bit. Memorial was supposed to be very good this season but they don’t have any really quality wins yet and just lost two of those chances to Bosse and Jeffersonville. Not going to kill them but games you needed to at least split. Michigan City was looking like an interesting team with a young roster and were 2-2 last week. Now they drop two more to a bad East Chicago team and Penn. The Penn loss isn’t that bad but it is just icing on the cake after the ECC loss. Lapel continues their spiral down with losses to Beech Grove and New Castle. Same as Michigan City in that they can stomach the New Castle loss a bit but losing to Beech Grove shouldn’t have happened. Westfield was 3-1 entering the week, looking like they could be trending up but they had the worst pair of losses of the week with Noblesville and Tipton. Tipton is decent this season and has a chance but Westfield is a 4A team that should just be better. Noblesville is an even worse loss. Great start for a lot of these teams but just a horrible week for them.
