10 Best : Hemingway vs Carvers Bay
The Hemingway Tigers made the 12 mile trip over to Carvers Bay to play in their first game of the season tonight. The defending reigning 1-A State Champions have a new Head Coach in Emmanuel DeWalt. The game was ugly early on with Carvers Bay leading 18-6 after the 1st quarter.
Aaron Parker hit back to back three pointers to start the 2nd quarter for the Tigers to cut the lead to 18-12. Parker would remain hot and finish the quarter with 9 points while the teams went into the halftime break tied at 22-22.
Andre Marks got the the hot hand for the Bears in the 3rd quarter while connecting on 2 three pointers and ending the quarter with a half court shot. Marks had the Bears leading 40-38 heading into the final quarter.
Dijon Goss showed his senior leadership along with Stephon Greene to squeeze out a close victory over the Tigers 55-51. Goss and Greene both finished the evening with 14 points.

Goss 6’4 has improved since last season. Goss a preseason All-State Selection along with being selected for the North-South Football Game later month. Goss brought the ball up several times today for the Bears and showed his versatility on the floor.

Marks connected on a half court buzzer beater to end the 3rd quarter.
Best Offensive Performance : Stephon Greene (2019) – Carvers Bay
Greene put himself to score more points tonight but just struggled to finish. Greene finished the evening with 14 points.
Best Defensive Performance : Darius “JuJu” Williams (2019) – Hemingway
Williams is a brute in the paint for the Tigers. Williams thrives on the word contact when he plays. Williams 6’4 left-handed post player battles on both ends of the floor on the glass. Williams is very nimble on his feet.
Best Guy off the Bench : Aaron Parker (2020) – Hemingway
Parker connected on some three pointers and provided a good spark off the bench for the Tigers. Parker finished the night with 12 points.
Best Underclassmen : Stephon Greene (2019) – Carvers Bay
Greene 6’6 has really improved some parts of his game. Greene still needs to fight through contact better and finish. Greene showed some good improvements tonight in his game.
Best Guy Under the Radar : Darius Taylor (2019) – Hemingway
Taylor is a constant headache on the floor for opponents. Taylor is constantly around the ball creating havoc. Taylor a 3 year starter is the leader of the this Tigers bunch. Taylor recorded 10 interceptions on the gridiron this season.
Best Project : Dashaquvious Cooper (2020) – Hemingway
Cooper 6’4 combo forward played inside-out on the floor today. Cooper a active player came over from nearby Johnsonville
Best Small College Project : Dijon Goss (2018) – Carvers Bay
Goss told Prep Hoops he is open to either sport at the college level. Goss 6’4 wide receiver has great size on the football field or can play wing on the hardwood.
Takeaway :
The Tigers will be fine after battling back this team is trying to fine their mojo under new Head Coach DeWalt.
Free Throws Free Throws should be the only thing the Bears should be working on this week. The Bears severely struggled on the foul line down the stretch.
