Sunnyslope Hoopsgiving Tournament: 1st Team
MVP
Deven Breckner 6’1 PG 2018 Deer Valley
Deven Breckner Deer ValleyBreckner sets the tone for everything that Deer Valley does. This was a tough decision as Bryce Davis had a great tournament as well. However, the deciding factor is the way that Breckner sets the tempo for everything that this group does. His ability to create for himself and for others was key to the team’s success. Further, he shot the basketball at a high level and finished extremely well around the rim.
1st Team
Bryce Davis 6’8 PF/C 2018 Deer Valley
Davis’ post game is much improved. He is more patient and demonstrating footwork that he has not had in the past. Further, he finished extremely well around the rim with both hands and was a game changer for this Deer Valley group. Deer Valley looks poised to have one of their best seasons in recent years.
Kyle Fischer 6’5 SF 2018 Sunnyslope
Fischer led Sunnyslope in points, assists, and rebounds last year. He is the key to much of Sunnyslope’s success as he does a little bit of everything for the team. Moreover, he looked more confident shooting the basketball from deep and from mid-range. In addition, he put the basketball on the floor well and finished around the rim.
Nikc Jackson 6’8 PF/C 2018 Rancho Solano
Jackson has been a huge addition to Rancho Solano. Despite only being 2A, Rancho showed anyone who was watching that they are capable of playing with the big boys. Jackson is a huge part of that as he brings length and an ability to get on the glass. Further, Rancho has a number of skilled and high IQ point guards who did a great job of utilizing Jackson. This team is poised to have a huge season.
Quentin Guliford 6’5 SF 2018 Liberty
“Q”, as all of his teammates and coaches call him, was a monster this weekend. Arguably his best game was a 43 point effort against NFL Yet. Due in large part to Guliford, Liberty was able to have success at this tournament. They are missing a number of key pieces that will make this team more competitive down the stretch. However, they still have Guliford who might be the most improved player in the entire state.
Dominic Gonzalez Dominic Gonzalez 6'3" | SG Ironwood | 2020 State AZ 6’3 PG/SG 2020 Ironwood
Gonzalez exploded this past week. In some of his first games ever as a sophomore, he obliterated his previous career highs with games that he scored 31 and 21. He shot the basketball as well as anyone this past weekend and showed more versatility in scoring the basketball than he did as a freshman. Moreover, he got on the glass and used his length extremely well on the defensive end.
