Recruiting Report: Marvin Coleman (2018)
The state’s top uncommitted 2018, 6-foot-3 point guard Marvin Coleman knows that he’ll need to make a college decision soon, but he’s in no hurry.
Fresno State, LaSalle and Pacific have all offered the cerebral floor general, and plenty of other schools are showing interest. Coleman, whose senior season at Foothill starts on Monday, is enjoying the recruitment process.
“I’ve got interest from a bunch of different schools. Right now it’s Utah Valley, Montana, GCU, Northern Arizona, UC-Santa Barbara, Stanford, a lot of the Ivy League schools. So, I’ve talked to a lot of schools, and I’m just taking it one step at a time and enjoying the process,” said Coleman.
“It’s my senior year, so I’m obviously going to commit somewhere soon, but I’m not in any rush.”
Nevada’s 4th-ranked 2018, Coleman has not taken any official visits yet, but has been on unofficials to Fresno State and Pacific. He’s hoping to get to Utah Valley State and Montana soon.
The school that can offer him the best opportunity to get in and play right away as a true freshman, will be the one with a good chance to nab the do-it-all point guard.
“Really, I just want to go somewhere where I can play my freshman year and make an impact as a true freshman,” said Coleman. “I don’t want to go somewhere where I’ll have to sit. I want to get a decent amount of minutes be an impact player right away.”
Whatever school does land Coleman, will get a good-sized, do-it-all guard with a high basketball IQ.
“Really, I can do it all. I can guard all the positions. I’m interchangeable on offense, and I’m a bigger point guard so I can rebound the ball well. Last year I averaged eight rebounds per game,” said Coleman.
“I really like to just impact the game in any way possible. If I’m not scoring, I like to get my teammates open, make sure I’m feeding my big-men, things like that.”
But first, before he makes an impact anywhere in college, Coleman has the task of leading his Falcons to big things during his forthcoming senior season.
“The difference this year is that we’re smaller, we’re all guards and we’re all interchangeable, So we’re going to play a lot faster and hopefully we can score a lot more points from that,” said Coleman.
“The main goal is a regional championship and state championship. We’re looking to do big things this year.”
