Recruiting Report: Jackson Johnsrud (2018)
Six-foot-1 guard Jackson Johnsrud of Minnewaska Area has division three programs tracking him closely because he’s the type of guard that coaches trust extensively.
“Jackson is a heady guard that can shoot and penetrate,” Lakers Coach Paul Johnsrud said. “He keeps us together.”
Jackson did much of the same for his 17U team this past spring and summer. Doing that and competing with the Lakers kept Jackson’s off-season busy.
“I played with the West Central United AAU program and my high school team participated in a number of breakdown tournaments,” Johnsrud said. “Along with that I kept busy doing individual workouts and lifting weights. My junior season went pretty well. We were very young and didn’t have much experience.”
Jackson put up 12.2 points, four boards, three assists, and two steals a game a year a game.
“My biggest focus since last season has been improving my ball handling and getting stronger,” Johnsrud explained. “I also focused on getting my teammates more involved and getting workouts done with them.”
Jackson returns along with fellow seniors Matt Gruber and Garrett Jensen and all three averaged double figures a year ago.
“We have a lot of experience coming back this year as well as talent in the younger grades,” Jackson said. “We should have a very competitive squad this year and should be tough to beat.
“My Individual goals are to be a great leader on the court and create a winning mentality amongst the team.”
Right now three division three programs are tracking Johnsrud that he has already visited.
“I have been contacted and have visited Minnesota-Morris, Concordia-Moorhead, and St. John’s.”
