Recruiting Report: Demarius Splunge (2020)
Demarius Splunge is a 6’6” small forward from Orr that has emerged with his play late in July and this fall at various camps including the PrepHoops Top 250 and Pangos Camp. He is a jumbo wing with size, strength, and athleticism. Tough cover when he is attacking on straight line drives to the hoop which he loves to do. Jumper is best from mid-range and streaky from three. Rebounds at a very high level and can take it off the glass and go the other way. When we first saw him we thought he was more of a ball dominant player that was just looking for his shots, but at the Pangos camp he displayed more passing feel than we had seen in the past. He already has multiple D1 offers on the table.
In July he started playing on a higher profile team with the Mac Irvin Fire and that helped him on the court and get noticed.
“It went well. I transferred from a team that wasn’t on the circuit to one that was. I played against tougher people. It got my name up. I think I played well the whole summer.”
Splunge performed well at the PrepHoopsIllinois Camp this fall.
“That was a good experience because you get to play against people who have the same talent as you. You get to dominate and show what you have in front of a lot of people.”
What does he bring to the table as a prospect?
“The thing I do best is attack the basket. I can shoot off the dribble and handle the ball. Pass and rebound. I can do a lot.”
He chatted about Orr’s expectations for this season.
“We are going to be even better this year. I can see it in open gym. We will probably win state again this year.”
Where do things stand with recruiting?
“Recruiting is good. We have coaches in the gym during open gym. I have offers from UIC, Southern, Oklahoma State, and DePaul.”
DePaul has made him a priority early in the process.
“It is my home city. DePaul is real well. I took a visit there. They have everything new in there. It looked good.”
Oklahoma State is another high major to extend an offer.
“It is a big D1 college. They play against a lot of tough colleges and get to you to the league.”
