Prospect Watch: Tayten Mau (2018)
Our Redeemer’s guard Tayten Mau was a key part of his team going 17-8 a season ago. It was a good year but falling in the Region final left a bad taste in the mouth of the Knights.
Tayten has a lot goals for his senior season so he spent his off months working on a daily basis.
“This off-season was a lot of fun,” Reid said. “I was in the gym everyday. I spent most of my time doing workouts with Tyler Rudolph from MSU. We did a lot of skill work this summer getting ready for my senior year. Junior year was a lot of fun and a learning experience. I also went to a lot of team camps with my high school team.”
What particularly was the goal of Mau’s offs-season of work both on his own and with his team?
“I tried focusing on my ball handling and on extending my shooting range since last season,” Reid said. “I also have tried working on communication on defense and talking as a whole.”
The good thing about the Knights is that all the key players from that 17-8 team return. Mau and Leyton Lang are the senior leaders
“This year all of our starting five returns. We have a lot of talent returning and we have some talent coming off the bench. I expect us to make a run in the state tournament this year.”
Mau isn’t just thinking state for his team but he hopes the work he’s put in during the off-season lands him with some post season honors.
“My team goals for this year is to win district, regionals, and state,” Reid said. “I want us to grow as a team and have fun. Individually my goals are to win senior Athlete of the Region, make All State, and be a part of the Lions All Star game.”
Tayten also wants to play college hoops. “I plan on doing visits when a college contacts me.”
