Prospect Spotlight: 2018 Jared Holmes
I am very familiar with players in the city of Las Vegas. I have tracked many of these young men from an early age. 2018 6’5″ WF Jared Holmes of Democracy Prep is a young man that has made tremendous progress. I embrace Prep Hoops Network for one simple reason, to bring exposure to players in Las Vegas that many people are not familiar with.
Democracy Prep is coached by (Trevor Diggs) a former UNLV player, a hard nose New York City guard that brings that type of element to his program. I make it a point not to only cover the bigger schools in the valley, but I take time out, and put my feet to the pavement to cover the smaller schools that produce good productive players.
Jared Holmes is a work in progress, he is a very athletic wing, that runs the floor and can play Above the Rim. He’s one of the more intelligent players that I have seen in the Valley. He scored a 28 on his ACT, and currently has a 4.0 GPA. This young man came off a State Championship game, where he finished with 12 points, 17 rebounds and three blocks.
I had the opportunity to speak with Coach Diggs about his player. ” I want Jared to be aggressive on the defensive end. I have given him the green light to shoot the 15-foot jump shoot”. At the Division 2 level this young man has to be at the top of the list as a wing player. He’s a relentless shot blocker.
Things to work on:
His footwork needs to improve.
His dribbling skills are somewhat suspect. With repetition he can increase his skill set.
Balance on jump shot
Strengths:
15 foot jump shot
shot Blocker
Athletic run floor
Motor
This young man has some upside. He will make a very good Division 3 or NAIA player.
