The basketball season is fast approaching here in the Palmetto State. Prep Hoops SC takes a look at some recruiting news & notes from around the state in this article.
Juan Perez has committed to play at Francis Marion University (NCAA D2) next season. Perez 6’6 forward from West Florence HS won’t have to travel but 10.5 miles to school next year. Perez will play for the hometown Patriots and Head Coach Gary Edwards.
Perez averaged 6.1 ppg and 10.6 rebounds last season for the 20-6 Knights. Perez will look to carry more of the scoring load this season with the departure of Sharone Wright Jr and Travion McCray.
Perez played a limited spring and summer AAU season with the Karolina Khaos battling some injuries.
Darren Grainger (2018) has picked up 2 football offers this past week from Furman and South Carolina State. Grainger the quarterback at Conway HS missed all the basketball season last year with a injury. Grainger played AAU this past summer with All or Nothing and the Ascend Ballers.
Grainger has the Tigers (11-1) into the 2nd Round of the SCHSL Playoffs this coming week. Grainger 6’4 (112-200) 1,961 yards 17 touchdowns and 5 interceptions. Grainger has ran for 539 yards on 97 carries and 4 touchdowns.
York Prep Head Coach Frank Hambrick has informed Prep Hoops that Alex Powell (2019) 7’0 is no longer with the program.
DJ Burns (2019) took a unofficial visit to the University of South Carolina this past weekend. Burns took in the Gamecocks vs Virginia Tech Hokies scrimmage game. Burns recently received a offer from the University of Virginia.
York Prep teammate Deuce Dean took a unofficial visit to Wake Forest University. Dean (2019) point guard played last season at Dutch Fork HS.
Sam Tyner (2018) is not enrolled at Easley HS this season according to Head Coach Grant Stallard. Tyner 6’8 played back in the spring AAU season with Team South Carolina.
De’iajae Ferguson (2018) just finished the football season at Colleton County HS (Walterboro). Ferguson 6’3 wide receiver had 75 receptions and 918 yards this season with 5 touchdowns. Ferguson recorded 11 receptions in the opening round of the playoffs vs North Myrtle Beach.
