Mr. Basketball Candidate: George Conditt
In this series we take a look at the potential candidates for Mr. Basketball in the state of Illinois for this upcoming season. Here we profile Corliss 2018 center George Conditt.
Profile:
Conditt emerged out of nowhere this past spring and summer with his play on the circuit for Team RWA. He is a 6’10” big man that has great mobility for his size. Runs the floor better than any post in the state and can handle it facing up on the perimeter. He really brings a lot to the table on the defensive end with his ability to protect the rim and block shots at a high rate. Last year during the high school season nobody knew who Conditt was and now he will be one of the more highly anticipated players to watch in Chicago this season for the casual fan and high school writers.
Odds to Win:
15/1
Why He Can Win:
Conditt has significant buzz after his summer. Momentum is a key aspect in race for an award like Mr. Basketball. He will be looking to carry that over to the high school season. With that buzz comes a lot of attention from fans and writers wanting to see what the hype is all about so he will have opportunities. With a lesser supporting cast than many of the other players on this list he will have the chance to post consistent double doubles and potentially triple doubles on a regular basis.
Obstacles to Win:
Corliss isn’t quite a traditional basketball power in Chicago. The school was so under the radar last year that many hadn’t ever even seen Conditt play until the spring. With a limited number of showcase games and big name opponents he will need to capitalize on every single one of them to have a chance at Mr. Basketball.
