All Met Candidate: Saddiq Bey
In this series, we will take an up close look at 10 First Team All-Met candidates in the DMV. With all things being considered, our prediction covers three categories: individual production, team performance, and level of competition. We will release one candidate each day, with the players organized in alphabetical order by last name. Here, we profile Saddiq Bey, a senior at Sidwell Friends.
PRODUCTION
Bey, who averaged 14 points and 6 rebounds per game as a junior, put up over 25 and 10 per game in summer league. He also tied season high’s of 29 points and 12 rebounds in his team’s victory over Saint James in the MAC Championship. The Quakers lose five seniors who were all major contributors to last years game, so naturally we expect Bey to pick up much of the slack.
PERFORMANCE
Coach Eric Singletary and his staff at Sidwell Friends do a great job preparing their team to play under any circumstances. Despite suffering several major injuries last season, including the loss of their leader Jelani Williams, they persevered and achieved their goal at the end of the season. We expect Bey to use the experience gained last season to help his team sustain their consistently high level of performance.
COMPETITION
The MAC is one of the most competitive leagues in the DMV, with formidable rivals such as Saint James, Maret, St. Andrew’s, and Flint Hill. Aside from that, the Quakers will play a very difficult schedule this season, featuring an appearance in the Morgan Wootten Tip Off, and Slam Dunk to the Beach.
