Intro: Jaylin Gibson (2021)
Evanston 6’3” 2021 shooting guard Jaylin Gibson has excellent size and plus athleticism at the two guard spot. Right now he plays best in an up and down game. He handles it well in the open floor and makes slick passes. Finishes above the rim. Defensively he contests shots and competes. Projects as a quality defender. Definitely a 2021 to track in Illinois.
He played with Hoops Avenue this past summer on the circuit and had a successful run to close out July.
“We won Fab 48. We won the whole thing. It was a tough couple games that I had to take over. Then I started to make sure my teammates were scoring and getting looked at. Mainly focused on winning.”
He will be stepping into a solid Evanston squad this year and see key minutes as a freshman.
“It is going pretty good. We have been doing pretty well. I am new to system and being a freshman on varsity is a blessing. There are a lot of freshman that can’t play on varsity. I have the mentality to play varsity basketball. I am smart with the ball and find the open man. I have to get used to the Evanston plays and how we do things.”
Nothing with recruiting yet, but Gibson is looking forward to picking the brain of college coaches so he can reach his goals of playing at the next level.
“I am really focused on getting high college looks and work on my craft so D1 coaches will come watch me and tell me things I need to work on so I can get to the highest level.”
