Boise State vs College of Idaho Exhibition Highlights Idaho Prep Talent
The Boise State Broncos walked away with an exhibition victory against the College of Idaho, but it wasn’t without a challenge. Trailing at halftime, the Broncos had to turn up the pace and defensive effort in the second stanza led by Mountain West Preseason Player of the Year Chandler Hutchinson who finished with 25 points, and 7 rebounds.
In terms of former Idaho prep talent, Justin Saunders (College of Idaho) led the way with his smooth and quick lefty release cashing in 12 points on 4-for-9 shooting from three point range. Saunders was often set up by Talon Pickney, who ended the contest with 9 points, 3 rebounds and 5 assists before fouling out. Nate Bruneel was another key contributor for the Yotes, a team who boasts nine total former Idaho prep players. Bruneel added 8 points and 6 rebounds in the loss.
Boise State’s two former Idaho prep hoopers did not see the court in the matchup.

- College of Idaho put up a helluva battle. Leading at the half, the Yotes shot the ball well from deep (39%) and put the pressure on defensively, but ultimately dropped the spirited game 74-69.
- Boise State turned over the ball a surprisingly 19 times which led to 17 points for the Yotes
- The Broncos got the charity stripe 37 times and converted on 23 attempts. Meanwhile, C of I went 8-for-10 from the line.
- In terms of the rebounding battle, Boise State came out on top with 43 total rebounds to 28 for the Yotes.
- 9 lead changes were accounted for in a game that was certainly entertaining for all that attended. A great appetizer for the collegiate season in the Treasure Valley with plenty of local kids to check up on.

As you can see, the list is impressive with a mix bag of players in terms of skill sets and experience. Some schools tend to recruit in state more aggressively than others as evident with this list, and one thing is for sure, the College of Idaho stands outs as the top Idaho prep recruiting school hands down. In fact, head coach Scott Garson told Prep Hoops Idaho recently that was a goal of his and the program’s in an interview piece about their most recent recruit, an in state prospect.
