Jalen Galloway made it official on October 15th that he would attend the College of Idaho as his commitment to the school located in Caldwell, Idaho was announced.
Galloway, a standout player for Mountain View high school who averaged 13.9 points and 8.5 rebounds last season in 5A, is regarded as one of the top athletes in the state for his level and looks to be a great get for the Yotes.
Galloway’s head coach at Mountain View, John Nettleton, spoke about Galloway’s recent decision, “obviously being close to home has its benefits with parents, friends, coaches and local fans being able to watch him play these next four years. I really think it was more about the support system at C of I that made his decision easy. The coaching staff, the players, the faculty and environment is what sold Jalen on C of I. He just wanted to be part of the Yote Family!”
The Yotes have been steady in their recruitment of local kids as they have shown a particular interest in keeping many of the talented prospects in Idaho close to home.
According to The College of Idaho’s men’s basketball head coach Scott Garson, staying diligent on recruiting kids like Galloway remains the plan. “The fact that we have nine players on our current fifteen man roster from the state of Idaho while we continue to challenge for conference championships and national championships each season shows that players from this area are having success at The College of Idaho. We will continue to be the most aggressive college team in the state in recruiting local talent.”
With Galloway, the Yotes will look to develop his already stable skill set, and notable traits which have made him a prized recruit for the program. An ability to rebound and block shots are just a few of his best on the court qualities. In addition, Nettleton noted, “I have watched Jalen grow as a young man these past four years and his attitude, work ethic and overall integrity are exactly the traits you want in a player as a coach.”
Garson has kept tabs on Galloway for quite some time as well, and has nothing but high remarks for the youngster. “I have known Jalen since he was an eighth grader and he has dramatically improved as a player each year over the past four years. It is a real testament to his work ethic and passion for the game. He is always in the gym working on his weaknesses and is not afraid to challenge himself,” Garson said.
In terms of what to expect from Galloway once he dons a Yotes uniform following this upcoming senior season, Garson has high ambitions, “Jalen has the ability to be a real matchup problem for the opposition. He has developed a tremendous post game and has excellent touch from the perimeter, along with the ability to put the ball on the floor. I see him playing multiple positions for us as his career goes on and his perimeter game continues to grow. Jalen’s ability to run and rebound are qualities that will allow him to impact the game immediately as freshman next season.”
Nettleton also sees nothing but bright skies ahead for Galloway. “I really feel Jalen will have a great career at C of I. The coaching staff at C of I is awesome and really believes in Jalen. Put that together with his work ethic and I feel Jalen will have success right out of the gate his freshmen year,” Nettleton added.
With Galloway announcing his commitment to the C of I, it gives the Yotes even more positive momentum heading into the 2017-2018 season, knowing that they have landed one of Idaho’s premiere talents as yet another Idahoan building block for the program.
