3A Mr. Basketball Candidate: Robert Burries
Robert Burries has been setting the basketball world on fire for two years now due to his highlight worthy scoring ability. He is capable of going off for 21 straight points from deep before opposing teams even know what happened. Burries is one of the most dangerous scorers in the entire state which is why he will have a legitimate chance to win Mr. Basketball.
Why Robert Burries Could Win Mr. Basketball
Burries is by far the best scorer in all of 3A and one of the best scorers in the entire state. Due to his scoring abilities, Globe will be able to compete with anyone at the 3A level.
In addition to putting up huge numbers as far as scoring is concerned, he is going to be tasked with trying to win a state championship. If Burries is able to knock down as many shots as he hit last year and assist in the process of Globe winning the state championship, he will be a serious candidate.
Burries numbers will put him in the conversation as there is a good chance that he will not only be the leading scorer in all of 3A but in the entire state.
Robert Burries’ Mr. Basketball Obstacles
One of the biggest concerns for Burries will be that he plays in 3A. Although his numbers will be outstanding, the question will also be raised as to what kind of numbers he would be putting up in a higher classification.
In addition to playing in 3A, there are no guarantees that Globe will be able to win the state championship. Realistically, for someone at a lower classification to win the award, they will need to have outstanding stats and put a ring on their finger in March.
Lastly, due to the volume of shots the Burries takes, his shooting percentages might be a deterrent for him winning the award. He scores the basketball extremely well. However, someone at a higher level with comparable numbers and a better shooting percentage might earn more consideration.
Robert Burries’ Mr. Basketball Chances
Due to having the ability to be the leading scorer for the entire state, Burries has to be a serious candidate for Mr. Basketball. He will put up video game type numbers as he leads Globe in this upcoming season.
If he is able to shoot the basketball at a higher percentage and aid Globe in winning games as well as a state championship, he will earn a lot of consideration. At the very least, every opponent that plays Globe better have a game plan to make it tough for Burries to score. He is going to get his points due to his role and abilities, but the question is how many shots did the teams force him to take.
