2020 Players Who Are A ‘Coach’s Dream’
So far we have discussed players from the 2018 and 2019 classes who are a ‘coach’s dream’. This is the type of player that adds something to a team that is distinctly different and valuable. These players have rare traits that all coaches want on their team.
Zach Maynard (2020, G, Rochester Adams)
Every team needs a selfless player who can do it all. Whether it be hitting a critical three, playing physical defense, or logging extra minutes…..Maynard will do it. He can run an offense from the point or play off the ball at shooting guard. He even played big in a tournament this summer and played primarily at small forward. Not only does Maynard do all this, but he does it well. An AAU coach this summer said: ‘That’s a future college player.”
Wendell Green Jr. (2020, PG, Detroit Country Day)
A coach at every level wants a star player who simply understands how to win. Green has an understanding and a feel for the game of basketball that is unmatched. He just gets it. He always seems to know what his team needs and finds a way to get it done. Green shows this basketball knowledge off the court as well. When he speaks, it’s obvious that he’s educated about the game. Coaches at all levels want a player like Wendell Green Jr. who is a winner on and off the court.
Jarvis Walker (2020, G, Mona Shores)
Every coach wants a sure thing: A player they know is good, will improve, and will succeed. This describes Walker perfectly. He’s already one of the top guards in the 2020 class. With his work ethic, a coach knows he’s going to continue to improve. He’s an energy player and that energy is present during practice as well. Walker has two sisters who are college basketball players, and they have laid out a blueprint for him to reach his goals. He’s not just following that blueprint, but Jarvis Walker is excelling in doing so.
Tyler Huenemann (2020, F, Mt. Pleasant)
Mt. PleasantCoaches love players who are strong, tough, and physical. That describes Huenemann perfectly. Not surprisingly, he’s also a great football player. He’s a hard-nosed kid who plays basketball with a chip on his shoulder. He’s intense and will never be outworked on the court. Huenemann isn’t afraid to use his body and actually plays very well with and through contact.
