2018 Players Who Are A ‘Coach’s Dream’
Certain basketball players are labeled a ‘coach’s dream’. There are a variety of reasons they may earn this title. A player may be an exceptional floor leader, another coach on the bench, a hustle payer, or a kid that keeps the team together during rough times. These are just a few of the many ways a basketball player can earn this label. Below are four Michigan seniors that are a ‘coach’s dream’.
Dylan Backalar (2018, G, Frankel Jewish Academy)
Dylan BackalarThis young man is a coach and a player all tied into one. He always knows where he and his teammates should be and what everyone needs to be doing. Backalar is tough, physical, full of energy and always encourages teammates to be the same. He is the first to hit the floor as well as the first to help a teammate off of it. Backalar is willing to do whatever his team needs and whatever the coach asks of him.
David DeJulius (2018, PG, EEVP)
Obviously, DeJulius is one of the most talented players in Michigan. But the UofM commit has much more to offer than just a great skill set. He will never be outworked. Not just on the court during a game, but in a quiet gym when nobody is watching. DeJulius is a grinder when it comes to training. He trains often and he does it hard, never taking even a repetition off. He’s the definition of a floor leader, putting teammates in position to succeed and encouraging them to be great.
Zach Winston (2018, G, U-D Jesuit)
Winston is quite simply a leader. If something needs to be said or done, he can be counted on. He can be a vocal leader as well as lead by example. Winston is the definition of a hustle player. Coaches love the energy he brings to the court, and that energy is often contagious. His teammates can feed off his energy and hustle. Winston is a humble leader who teammates and opponents respect. He sets an example for others with his demeanor on the court.
Justin Fischer (2018, PG, De La Salle)
Fischer is the guy that makes everything go. He’s a coach on the floor and greatly respected by teammates. When talking to other De La Salle players, they always rave about their point guard. He’s the type of kid who will run through a brick wall just to grab a rebound. Fischer is a technician when running an offense. He’s focused in the huddle and always seems to know exactly what his coach is looking for.
