1A Mr. Basketball Candidate: Jace Eyre
Panguitch High School has frequently found a way to have solid basketball programs. Jace Eyre is yet another talented young man to come out of this program. The 6’5 SF/PF will be one of the primary reasons that this team is a top state championship contender once again.
Why Jace Eyre Could Win Mr. Basketball
Eyre will be the key player on a state championship contender. His ability to score the basketball on the block and collect rebounds will be a huge part of Panguitch’s potential run to the state championship.
With Panguitch being one of the favorites to win the state championship, Eyre will also be one of the favorites to win the 1A Player of the Year. It will hurt the team to lose a senior who was as key to this team’s state tournament run as Trey Barney was. However, it could help Eyre’s numbers.
Eyre will have the opportunity to score the basketball at a higher rate due to the increased role. In addition, Barney will shoulder a bigger role on the glass.
Jace Eyre’s Mr. Basketball Obstacles
One of the biggest difficulties for Eyre will be getting the basketball in the post now that Barney is gone. Good guards can live without good bigs, but good bigs cannot live without good guards. Someone will have to step up and get Eyre the basketball in spots where he can be productive.
Another one of Eyre’s difficulties will be playing in 1A. He will need to dominate, as will Panguitch, in order for him to receive a legitimate chance to win this particular award.
Jace Eyre’s Mr. Basketball Chances
Although Eyre will have some difficulties due to Barney being gone, Acey Orton should be in a position to help. He might not fill the position entirely, but he will do enough to get Eyre involved at a rate that will make him productive.
Eyre is the best post player in the entire classification and should get a lot of respect. Further, although it is possible, it would take a lot for Panguitch to not win the state championship.
This historically rich basketball program will have another solid basketball team this season and will make a lot of noise. With that said, although he is in the conversation, Eyre is not a top contender for the prize at this point. It will be tough due to players at higher levels winning similar games and having similar numbers.
