10 Best: West Florence at Trinity-Byrnes
Prep Hoops was once again in the Pee Dee at Trinity-Byrnes. The Titans hosted West Florence in round two of three this season. The Titans took the first game last week in the Turkey Shootout finals at West Florence. Trinity-Byrnes starts 5 seniors on the floor.
The game started out sluggish with both teams committing over 21 first half fouls. The Titans took their first lead at 15-13 on a three by Terance Mack with 1:30 left in the first quarter. The Knights retook the lead at 17-15 with a Nick Stewart layup with 40.5 second left in the first. Trinity-Byrnes finished the quarter with three to take the lead at the end of the first at 18-17.
The Knights used a 19-12 run in the second quarter to take a 36-30 halftime lead on the Titans. The Titans ended up winning the battle at home 89-81 over the Knights.
MVP: LaShaun McFadden (2018) Trinity-Byrnes
McFadden came out in the second half and scored 19 of his 24 points for the Titans. McFadden started the game off slow with only five points in the first half. McFadden created several turnovers to help in Titans comeback.
Offensive Performance of the Game: Nick Stewart (2018) West Florence
Stewart 6’4 combo guard that scored 13 of his 22 points in the second half. Stewart helped the keep the Knights in the game in the second half. Stewart scored the ball from using his mid-range game and knocking down free throws
Defensive Performance of the Game: Terance Mack (2018) Trinity-Byrnes
Mack a left-handed guard created several turnovers to help sparks the Titans second half comeback. Mack transferred into the Titans after starting the school year at nearby Hartsville HS.
Play of the Game: Trinity run
The Titans came out in the third quarter and outscored the Knights 28-19 to take the lead 58-55. The Titans would never look back after getting ahead.
Best Guy off the Bench: Derrion Lloyd (2019) West Florence
Lloyd 6’0 guard that came off the bench to give the Knights a boost in the first half. Lloyd scored 15 of his team-high 23 points in the first half.
Best Underclassmen: Jordan Jones (2020) Trinity-Byrnes
Jones 5’9 guard was a good spark off the bench for the Titans. Jones transferred in this off season and played quarterback for the Titans.
Best Guy under the Radar: Ryan Frierson (2018) Trinity-Byrnes
Frierson 6’3 small forward. Frierson has recorded three straight double-figure for the Titans. Frierson a glue guy just always seems to be around the ball whenever on the floor.
Best Project: Tyquez Eaddy (2021) West Florence
Eaddy 6’4 forward that starts for the Knights after moving into the area this summer from Lake City. Eaddy plays bigger than size and generally stays in the paint to get work done. Eaddy had 11 points for the Knights tonight.
Best Small College Players: Cameron “CJ” Miles (2018) Trinity-Byrnes
Miles 6’3 left-handed wing player prefers to play out on the perimeter.
Takeaway
The Knights lost a few transfers this off season along with not playing Francis Marion University commit Juan Perez still held their own to the well-coached Titans. Also, Daymond Tinsley for the Knights was hurt with a thumb injury.
The Titans also have a lot of depth on the bench. Look for the Titans to compete for the SCISA Class 2A state title. The Titans move to 5-0 on the season.
