10 Best: Conway at Marion
Prep Hoops started the season with Conway HS and Marion HS last night. The Swamp Foxes started the game with a 7-4 lead with 5:15 left in the first quarter. Then the Tigers went in a 14-6 run to end of the first quarters at 21-10.
In the second quarter it was more of the Tigers as the defense created several turnovers. Juwan Moody was a pest on the defensive side of the ball last night. The Tigers never looked back at all in the second half and the final was Conway HS 81-53.

Nichols 6’8 forward scored a game-high 21 points and grabbed several rebounds for the Tigers. Nichols created havoc inside the paint for the Swamp Foxes. Nichols hit a three and made several mid-range shot for the Tigers. Nichols has signed onto play at Providence next season.
Offensive Player of the Game: Darren Grainger (2018) Conway HS
Grainger 6’4 guard that helped the Tigers expand it lead in the second quarter. Grainger finished the evening with 15 points.
Defensive Player of the Game: Juwan Moody (2018) Conway HS
Moody 5’10 guard created havoc all night for the Marion back court. Moody swarmed the ball leading into several steals on the evening. Moody is committed to East Carolina University for football.
Best Underclassmen: Tanaeri “TJ” Sanders (2021) Marion HS
Sanders 6’3 forward finished the night with 13 points in his varsity debut for the Swamp Foxes. Sanders played this summer with Carolina Stampede on the AAU circuit.
Best Guy off the Bench: Tonka Hemingway (2020) Conway HS
Hemingway is a load in the paint for the Tigers. Hemingway finished the night with 12 points. Hemingway will go for football route down the road since he has already received BIG 5 interest and scholarship offers.
Best Project: Mac Washington (2021) Marion HS
Washington 6’0 shooting guard scored 3 points in his varsity debut. Washington and Sanders will be the foundation fro the Swamp Foxes in the years to come.
Best Small College Prospect: BJ Blue (2018) Marion HS
Blue 6’2 off guard was limited to 8 points tonight for the Swamp Foxes. Blue a mainstay the past 3 season for the Swamp Foxes can play at a small college level somewhere.
Takeaway:
Moody had East Carolina University Football staff in the gym to watch him play at Marion. Grainger has two visit setup in January 2018 with Furman University and The Citadel. Grainger helped lead Conway Tigers to a 10-2 season on the gridiron as a quarterback.
Marion HS has a new head coach Andre Weathers. The Swamp Foxes have several players along with some good underclassmen to make a run for a region title this season.
