WNC has some solid basketball players this time around. In a area that is more or less known for Friday nights at the football field, basketball is making a comeback around the mountains with the type of players listed below.
2018
Deacon Heath (Avery County HS)-At 6-foot, Heath does everything at a high level. He can score it from anywhere on the floor, can finish in traffic, has a knack for knowing where to be on the floor, is an above average passer, and makes the right play every single time I see him play. I feel Deacon is a Big South/Southern Conference/Patriot League guard. Those schools should be taking a look at him.
Isaiah Pruett (AC Reynolds HS)-Pruett is a do-it-all type point guard, he is great in the open floor, he has great court vision, can knock down shots past the 3-point line. What stands out the most is his ability to create off the dribble and his shot-making. Standing 5-foot-9, Pruett plays more like the is 6-foot-3 with his athletic ability, basketball IQ and court sense. He has a natural feel for the game and just knows how to play basketball. Something that cannot be taught and is missing a lot in the game today.
Tai Giger (Carolina Day)-A running back on the basketball court, Giger is strong and athletic. He is a bulldog when it comes to getting into the paint and going after smaller guards. He is an above average shooter out past the three-point line and in. He has a knack for finding the open man in transition and the half-court set.
Max Spurling (Asheville Christian Academy)-Spurling does a little bit of everthing really well. He is skilled with the ball in his hands, he can grab rebounds, is a solid defender, moves well without the ball and can shot it consistently from beyond the three point line. He is a player that absorbs so much from his coaches and will do whatever it takes to win.
