Warwick Workouts College Prospect Camp Recap
Warwick Workouts in Sioux Falls, SD hosted their 6th annual College Prospect Camp this past Saturday and it was littered with talent. This was an invite only camp and some of the top remaining 2018’s in the region plus top 2019 and 2020 players attended. These kids competed for three hours in front of nine different colleges who attended. The combination of skill sessions plus competition made for an incredible camp.
In this article, I will breakdown the camp and certain standouts. Also to accompany this article will be follow-up articles with a more detailed breakdown of certain players and positions. During the skill sessions, players showed their scoring, finishing and shooting ability. Overall, the entire roster of talent did very well in this portion.
Skill Sessions: The ball handling period was quick and explosive. Jerome Wallace III (Omaha Bryan), Luke Ronsiek (Sioux Falls O’Gorman), and Dylan Hay (Rapid City Central) did a great job handling two balls and keeping eye contact up and down the floor. 1 on 0 finishing combined some ball handling into finishes at the rim. Kobe Busch (Huron), Mason Jung (Millard North) and Sioux City West teammates Cliff McCray and Robert Mosey all displayed their explosiveness and athleticism at the rim. In a catch and shoot series, a few players showed their ability to shoot the basketball at a high level. Displaying good balance and a consistent release was Nick Hoyt (Harrisburg HS). Other kids who looked to be great knockdown shooters were Quincey Ihnen (Lennox) and Ryan Garland (Sturgis).
1 on 1: There were multiple ways that one on one was performed and competed at. A few standouts were Kailleb Walton-Blanden (Rapid City Central), Trey King (Irene-Wakonda), and Akoi Akoi (Sioux Falls O’Gorman). Each of these kids went on runs where they didn’t give the ball up, scoring time and time again in multiple ways.
3 v 3 NO Ball screens: In a quick 3 v 3 period, players had to create in space and move without the ball. Manny Tor (Sioux Falls O’Gorman) defended in space well and made good decisions. Elijah Williams (Rapid City Central) did a good job setting screens and sealing on the block. Joe Manchester (Blair) spread the floor, was a good screener for a wing player, and knocked down open shots.
4 v 4 WITH Ball screens: A period set up to start with ball screens and play off of that, helped display some of the talents of kids who are very good playing off ball screen action. Jacob Vis (Western Christian) and Camden Bialas (Parker) were good as bigs rolling and catching in the lane making good decisions. Max Nielson (Sioux Valley) handled the ball off the ball screen very well and made good decisions. Jack Cartwright (Sioux Falls O’Gorman) did nice job spacing the floor and knocking down shots if not making the correct extra pass.
The camp also consisted of two 5 v 5 periods. Some of these kids plus others did nice job and showed their abilities. In the articles that will follow this up, we will breakdown in detail more of these kids.
Stay tuned…
