Vincennes Jamboree: JUCO Scouting
PrepHoops attended the Vincennes Jamboree this past Sunday where we evaluated prospects from across the Midwest from both the JUCO and prep ranks. Here we look at the JUCO prospects that stood out!
SG Jaiveon Eaves (John A Logan – Sophomore)
Eaves was very impressive in our first eval of him. The Evansville transfer stands at 6’3” and flat out gets buckets. He is automatic shooting the basketball! Eaves was lethal hitting pull up jumpers from all over the floor including three. Very quick release on pull up shot. Sound form and consistent accuracy. One of the best pull up jump shooters we have seen in a while. Solid rebounder from the wing position. His value is with his shooting and scoring pop. Mid-major prospect.
SG Derek Hawthorne (John A Logan – Sophomore)
Hawthorne is a 6’3” sophomore shooting guard that transferred to Logan from Marian University. He is a thick built shooting guard that has crisp handles. Good first step. Shot the ball well especially off the catch from three with a clean looking stroke. D1 prospect.
PG David Sloan (John A Logan – Freshman)
Sloan is a prospect that was highly touted out of high school and is originally from Louisville, Kentucky. He should be a dynamic playmaker for Logan this season at the lead guard spot. Sloan is a fast point guard that pushes it in the open floor weaving in and out of the defense. Best playing in the transition game where he can use his speed, vision, and explosion to beat a defense in a variety of ways. Takes it to the hoop with authority off the dribble where he finishes very well with acrobatics. Jump shot is an area that he didn’t show much. Defensively he has active hands getting deflections and steals. Mid-major prospect for sure after a couple years at Logan.
PF Vonnie Patterson (John A Logan – Freshman)
Patterson is a freshman 6’5” forward from Ballard High School in Louisville. He is a long and angular lefty that does his damage on the interior. Angular prospect that will need to add more strength as time goes on, but he is already an effective rebounder. Gets on the offensive glass with his explosive second jump and quickness. Does most of his damage on second chance opportunities around the rim and also finishes well in transition. Will be interesting to track his progress over the next two years to see if he can develop some perimeter skills which would elevate his value. Right now he is a low-major player.
PG Isaiah Tisdale (Vincennes – Sophomore)
Tisdale is a 6’1” point guard that should be the star player this season for an always stacked Vincennes squad. He isn’t the most athletic, but rather a crafty lefty that just gets stuff done. Competes at a high level and is a leader on the floor. Gets in the lane with crisp handles and finishes well in the paint through contact or over it with floaters. Likes to use a step back jump shot to soften up the defense. Good passer with feel in both transition and half court. He should be looked at by mid-major programs.
PF Lony Francis (Vincennes – Freshman)
Francis was an absolute beast for Vincennes! The 6’6” freshman is going to be a dominant force this season. The four man has a great left handed hook shot that he went to over and over and over. At one point you are like don’t they realize that’s kind of his bread and butter? Very quick post moves as soon at the ball touches his hands. Quickness off the floor and has the strength to finish through contact. Francis will be a player that mid-majors will track the next two seasons.
PF Sehill Mouliom (Vincennes – Sophomore)
Mouliom is a 6’6” post that has a great body with wiry strength and athleticism. The lefty is quick at getting to the offensive glass for put backs. D1 prospect.
SF Wade Lowman (Cuyahoga – Sophomore)
Lowman stood out to us with his versatility and upside at 6’6”. He is a thin and broad shouldered small forward that has a frame where he should be able to add more strength down the road. He is slippery with the ball in his hands with long strides that allowed him to slash to the rim. Ran the floor well. Contributed on the boards. Defensively he was active using his length to get deflections. Worth consideration at the low-major level. Only current offer is Presbyterian.
SF Vincent Smalls (Cuyahoga – Freshman)
Smalls is a 6’4” small forward with length and projectability. He flashed scoring ability with a pull up jumper and some skill with his passing.
SG Bobby Parks (Mineral Area – Sophomore)
Parks has good size on the wing at 6’4”. The shooting guard has a quick release on his shot and moves well without the ball to get open.
SG Logan Kohrmann (Kaskaskia – Sophomore)
Kohrmann has bounced around a bit after his career at Breese Central in high school. He is a 6’3” two guard that has some scoring punch. He hit some jump shots including a couple threes off the catch. Got out in transition for a couple layups. D2 upside.
PG Josiah Wallace (Olney Central – Freshman)
Wallace is a skilled point guard from Marshall High School who was one of the more underrated prospects in last year’s high school class from Illinois. Slick handling point guard that that is smooth with the basketball in his hands. Moves well without the ball. Good combination of scoring and passing and should be OCC’s best player the next two seasons.
SF Nathan Scott (Olney Central – Freshman)
Scott is a sleeper and upside wing from Neuqua Valley in the Chicago suburbs. He has great size at 6’7” with the versatility to play some at the four, but he will need to add more strength as he struggled finishing a couple times around the hoop. Gets out in transition where he runs the floor well. Active defender on the perimeter with his length.
C Roiyell Nesbitt (Olney Central – Sophomore)
Nesbitt is a tough and rugged 6’9” center that plays physical on the interior. He is a good area rebounder that has the ability to get offensive rebound put backs and junk points on the interior. Flashes a lefty hook shot on occasion.
C Aaron Taylor (Kennedy King – Freshman)
Taylor went head to head with Nesbitt. He is a bit undersized at about 6’5” for the center position. Wide bodied post that finishes well through contact and plays with a high motor.
PF Kasey Elam (Lake Land – Sophomore)
Elam is a 6’7” power forward originally from Champaign Centennial. He is a physical freak with uber athleticism and bounce around the hoop. He has a nice frame as well. Showed an improved face up game hitting a fadeaway from the baseline as well as a wing three off the catch. Solid rebounder. Could be a low-major/D2 prospect to monitor this season.
PF Kevin Williams (Lake Land – Freshman)
Williams is a tough and rugged four man from Rantoul that will bring that junk yard dog mentality to his team at Lake Land this season. The 6’6” power forward is a defensive presence on the interior that is very active on the glass.
PG Marcus Latham (Parkland – Sophomore)
Latham who is originally from Alton made a name for himself during his high school career and is primed to have a big year at Parkland. The 6’3” point guard has good size and can get to the rack where he scores at the rim. Streaky shooter.
