Super Senior Sleepers
At PrepHoops our mission is to cover all levels of high school basketball prospects. We continue that here with our look at some Super Senior Sleepers! All of these prospects are #100 or lower in the latest state 2018 rankings. Each one of these 10 prospects can make an impact in the right fit at the small college level.
SF Damond Crosby (Salem)
Rank: #100
Travel Team: Illinois Bears
Crosby is a 6’5” small forward from Salem that when locked in has a chance to be a very good player. For the first time in his high school career he will be forced into a role where he has to be the best player on the floor. Crosby has the physical tools to be a go to weapon. He has played with the Illinois Bears this spring and bulked up his upper body since we last saw him. He is starting to be more aggressive and make his impact on the game consistently. Crosby has a smoothness to his game. Makes plays in the open floor and likes to use his euro step to finish at the rim. Clean looking jump shot that is becoming a major weapon in the pull up game. Crosby could be an excellent impact small college wing prospect!
SF Cade Callaghan (St. Charles North)
Rank: #105
Travel Team: Tri City Thunder
Callaghan is the unsung guy who just goes about his business and does the dirty work that is necessary for a team to win. He is a tough wing that rebounds well and can shoot it. Seems to have a nose for always being around the basketball. He was a key cog in the success that Tri City Thunder had over the last several years. Quality small college player.
F Seth Kizer (Limestone)
Rank: #107
Travel Team: Illinois Irish
Kizer is a 6’7” combo forward that has shot up height wise over the last year. The forward has also gotten significantly stronger. He can still do what he has for years which is shoot it from the perimeter. Kizer has a pure stroke out to the three point line. Would like to see more out of him beyond shooting. He has shown the ability to score on the block on occasion.
G Jordan Matthews (St. Rita)
Rank: #116
Travel Team: Team Rose
Matthews is a crafty combo guard that is coming off a strong junior campaign with his high school team and has shown flashes of his ability with Team Rose on the circuit. He isn’t overly explosive like his older brothers (Charles and Dominique), but he is shifty with the ball and the angular guard has a knack for getting in the lane. Good passer that makes sound decisions with the ball in the half court. Streaky shooter from the perimeter. Crafty defender that will get a few steals and take them the other way.
SG Ryan Cicenas (Riverside Brookfield)
Rank: #118
Travel Team: Mercury Elite
Cicenas is a big time shooting threat from the perimeter. The 2018 prospect has been quietly a productive player over the last couple years both on the circuit and in high school. He can really shoot it from deep and even step in to hit a one dribble pull up. Moves great away from the ball to get open. Has some grit to him as well.
SF Josh Boulanger (Brother Rice)
Rank: #119
Travel Team: Chicago Lockdown
Boulanger is a 6’4” small forward out of Brother Rice High School that always catches our eye in a variety of settings. The 2018 wing flew a bit under the radar with the dominance of their senior backcourt duo last year, but we came away extremely impressed with what he brought to the table this summer. First and foremost he is an outstanding rebounder for his position. Crashes the glass hard and high points the ball. Offensively he showed potential on a jump shot as he hit a couple threes when we saw him with Chicago Lockdown, but it isn’t consistent at this stage. Smooth and fluid athlete that is comfortable playing in transition. Handles could improve in the half court.
PG Carter Higginbottom (St. Ignatius)
Rank: #122
Travel Team: Chicago Lockdown
Higginbottom is a high IQ point guard that brings great leadership to the table. He is super competitive and has a drive to continue to get better. Crisp passer that makes sound decisions with the basketball in his hands. Handles have continued to get better each time we see him. Moves well without the ball. Needs to continue working on his jump shot which has definitely gotten better since the summer. Really good small college player with a 34 ACT score!
PG Randy Tucker (Rock Island)
Rank: #136
Travel Team: Quad City Elite
Tucker is a long and wiry lead guard that played a key role on Quad City Elite 17U this past spring and summer on the circuit. He is a lead guard that is a solid passer and can spot up shooting it from three on occasion. Tucker projects as a small college point guard prospect that once he adds strength could become a steal for the program that lands him.
SG Justin Johnson (Carterville)
Rank: #158
Travel Team: Illinois Bears
Johnson is a prospect that is primed for a monster senior campaign. We have seen this 6’2” southern Illinois two guard play quite a bit during his career during high school and in camp settings. The two sport star plays with a lot of grit and toughness. Solid in transition as he runs the floor hard. Has the ability to shoot it. Pulls up off the bounce and can hit it from three and mid-range. Plays with a high motor.
PF Jacob Schwerbrock (Kewanee Weathersfield)
Rank: #172
Travel Team: Quad City Elite
Schwerbrock has nice size at 6’8”. The thick bodied four man from Weathersfield High School is crafty on the block. Not a big time athlete, but he plays hard and can hit a pick and pop shot. Small college prospect that should find a nice role on a team at that level.
