Sectional Preview: 56
The coming high school season is almost upon us. With that, we are taking a look at each Sectional in the state. Starting with 64 and ending with 1. Today, we are previewing Sectional 56.
Blue River (10-14) – Lost 2nd Rd. Sectional
Blue River lost a large senior class as seven players departed which usually would kill a team for the next year but this team it won’t. Their most valuable players were underclassmen which means that they return four of their best players this year. Could be a year they get back over .500.
Randolph Southern (4-18) – Lost 1st Rd. Sectional
Randolph Southern hasn’t won double-digit games in 17 years and I doubt that will change this year. They haven’t had any success recently and they aren’t built for success. They could surprise this year and win 6 or 7 games but not more than that.
Seton Catholic (15-12) – Lost 1st Rd. Regional
Last year, Seton Catholic got the benefit of a good draw in sectionals and won the sectional in two games. This year, no matter how good the draw, Seton Catholic probably won’t have that luck of winning easy again because gone is their 23 PPG scorer and everyone else averaged under nine points. They still could make a bit of noise in this weak sectional.
Union (Modoc) (7-14) – Lost Sectional Final
Union has been getting better every year and this may be their year that they finally break out and make a little bit of noise. Of course they aren’t going to wow everyone but they are experienced and they got a little bit of a taste of what it is like to win in the postseason last year
Union City (3-18) – Lost 1st Rd. Sectional
Union City only had nine varsity players last year and they all played extensively. They lose their top two scorers and no one else was over seven points a game. This will really be a bad year for them with a new coach and no real talent coming in.
Contenders For 2017-18: Blue River, Seton Catholic, Union (Modoc)
