Sectional Preview: 33
The coming high school season is almost upon us. With that, we are taking a look at each Sectional in the state. Starting with 64 and ending with 1. Today, we are previewing Sectional 33.
Andrean (17-6) – Lost 1st Rd. Sectional
Last year in 3A had a great year but ran into a tough sectional opponent in Twin Lakes. Andrean loses a lot of talent but they return a couple big contributors and they have some good freshmen coming in. Moving down a class will really help them in a good sectional like this.
Gary Roosevelt (16-9) – Lost Regional Final
Gary Roosevelt was loaded in talent last year with a ton of seniors on the roster. They beat some really good teams on the way to regionals. This year they will be a little down but do return two very good players. They will have a good shot at repeating for another title.
Hammond Noll (8-15) – Lost 2nd Rd. Sectional
Hammond Noll had a rough year last year and this year will even be worse for them. They do return their top scorers from last year but lose their next three. Hammond is in a tough sectional and with five sophomores they are better suited to contend next year.
Lake Station (5-19) – Lost 2nd Rd. Sectional
Lake Station loses three seniors to graduation but return a host of young guys. There will be eight juniors this year, five of which were in their top eight of scoring last year. It will be a better year for them than last year and they will contend, just not sure if they can win this year.
River Forest (18-6) – Lost Sectional Final
River Forest had a great year but fell short in the sectional Championship. They were loaded in freshmen and sophomores so this year they will decline a bit but not much. The reason being is they lost a few very good seniors but they are going to still be a load to handle.
Whiting (10-14) – Lost 1st Rd. Sectional
Whiting struggled against teams last year that they should have beaten and after losing five seniors, this year will not be much different. They have four juniors on the team who can play but they need a little more experience before they contend for the title.
Contenders For 2017-18: Andrean, Gary Roosevelt, Hammond Noll, Lake Station, River Forest
Prediction: Andrean
Player to Watch: Curtis Jones (Andrean)
