The SEC Red has risen to prominence recently in high school basketball. It’s not surprising with the influx of superstar talent in the area and top shelf coaching to go with it. However, the SEC Red has always been known for it’s intensity and toughness. This will certainly be the case in the 2017-2018 season. We will highlight three players in the SEC Red that are ‘tougher than nails’.
Jack Ammerman (2018, G, Ann Arbor Skyline)
Jack Ammerman knows no fear. While many high school basketball players struggle in unfriendly confines, he thrives in them. The more chatter he hears from the stands, the more his game rises. Ammerman often shows his toughness late in the game. If there is a loose ball in the 4th quarter, he is guaranteed to be on the floor. He is never afraid of a critical three from the corner late in a game.
Emmett Turner (2018, F, Saline)
If you like to watch a kid who is willing sacrifice physically for his team, come watch Emmett Turner play. He can initiate contact, play through contact, and receive contact. The great thing is, he plays better this way. He’s strong and tough, and will do whatever it takes to be successful. Turner can often be found on the floor chasing a ball or battling for a rebound.
Avery Lewis (2018, F, Ann Arbor Huron)
Avery Lewis is one of the most polite and respectful young men you’ll ever meet. But on the basketball court, he is relentless. The word ‘quit’ is not in his vocabulary. It doesn’t matter if a game is close or if it is a blowout, he will be going 110%. Lewis is tough enough to take on any challenge. Need a critical rebound? He’ll battle for it. Need a big bucket? He’ll get it.
