This group is capable of making noise come the state tournament and should be fun to watch in this upcoming season.
Region Preview: 5A Southern
1. Buena
Not only is Buena one of the best teams in this region, but they are also one of the top teams in the state. Dominic Mooney is one of the top playmakers in this region. His ability to create for himself and his teammates make him a key contributor. Further, he plays with a toughness that inspires his teammates as well. One of the top recipients of Mooney’s passing abilities is Kino Bellinger. Bellinger is a knock down shooter who has a great chemistry with Mooney. He moves well without the basketball and has a quick release that enables him to get his shot off. This duo is dangerous and will make a lot of noise this season.
2. Cienega
Cienega lost a couple of key prospects. However, they bring back Jordan Green, who runs the show for the team. Green sets the tempo for the team and gets his teammates involved. His ability to drive and kick is crucial to the teams success. In addition to generating offense for the team, his ability to generate turnovers aids him as well. In addition to Green, Breven Burnett will play a huge role for this group due to his ability to get on the glass. The 6’4 PF has a good motor and competes at a high level. These two will be relied upon heavily in order for Cienga to have success.
3. Mountain View
Mountain View lost one of the most talented 2020 prospects in the state, Evan Nelson Evan Nelson 6'1" | PG Salpointe | 2020 State #184 Nation AZ . Nelson has transferred to Salpointe. With that said, this group has plenty of returning talent. They should make noise in this region as well as 5A. Drew Cotton is one of the most explosive guards in the state. He will be largely responsible for picking up the slack due to Nelson leaving. In addition to Cotton, Julian Molina and Trevor Andresan played key roles last season and will be expected to improve their performances to keep Mountain View relevant.
