Six-foot-3 guard Stephen Hayes of Overland High is hearing from D1 programs and is in the area of being a top ten kid in his class.
Hayes played with the Colorado Hawks this past spring and summer and just being with them was big for Hayes.
“The top highlights of the 16u season was playing with the Hawks and traveling with them to gain exposure,” Hayes said.
Hayes wants to be a more versatile guard his upperclassmen years at Overland High playing both spots.
“My main focus is to improve my ball handling skills in order to run the guard spot as well as making open shots for the team,” Hayes explained.
Seniors Goy Wang, Daijon Smith, Laolu Oke, and Tucson Redding will be the leaders and Hayes will lead the junior guard.
“The outlook is nothing less than final four and we have a strong senior class that will lead us this year. My goals are to be one of the best defenders in our league and to win a state title.”
Division one programs have began calling Hayes consistently.
“Denver, Air Force, and South Dakota have been showing the most interest,” Hayes said. “I haven’t visited any schools yet and I don’t think I will until later on after the season.”
Hayes has a pair of players he loves to watch.
“LeBron James is my favorite hooper in the league right now,” Hayes said. “I also think Brandon Ingram is pretty solid.”
