Recruiting Report: Rajeir Jones (2019)
Based off of the names you read on their roster, St. Frances Academy has all of the tools to be a nationally ranked program this season. It isn’t a roster that is dominated by seniors, they have special talent at each position that range from seniors all the way down to freshmen. In the middle of that group is junior guard Rajeir Jones.
The Panthers struggled last season due to injuries and the inability to create the cohesiveness that is needed to contend in the MIAA and BCL. However it isn’t like their entire season was doom and gloom. It was a preview of what was to come for the next couple of years with their young core. For Jones, it was a chance to cement himself in the rotation, which didn’t take long because of his ability to hit the outside shot.
This summer for Jones, it was about polishing specific aspects of his game so he would once again be a contributor for the Panthers.
“Handling the ball and shooting off the dribble,” the 6’3 Team Thrill guard told PrepHoops. “A lot of working on getting open without the ball and making sure my teammates stay involved as well.”
Jones was fortunate enough to pick up his first offer from Norfolk State after the Panthers won their team camp over the summer. Jones was a standout at the camp and has continued his high level of play in St. Frances’ offseason workouts.
Mt. St. Mary’s and Towson have attended the workouts and expressed interest in Jones.
At 6’3, Jones has nice size to go with high basketball IQ. Not only can he knock down the three-point shot consistently, he also rebounds and defends well.
The 3.0 student is looking forward to more coaches contacting him once they see his work ethic and shooting in person. If the Panthers play up to their potential and Jones can be a consistent producer as expected, it should only be a matter of time before more coaches are inquiring about him.
