Recruiting Report: Ozzie Johnson (2019)
There are many programs in the state that aren’t in the IHSAA, namely Charter Schools, recently that have been very good. They have attracted talent and put together competitive rosters. Horizon Christian out of Fort Wayne is one of them and they have a 6’5 wing that has been growing in interest ever since this time last year.
2019 forward Ozzie Johnson has been a guy to watch at times over the last year. He’s a tall, kind of lanky wing that can play all over the floor and has a lot of tools that work for him. He’s a solid scoring option who does most of his work in the mid-range and on drives. They like to play uptempo and can draw a lot of close-to-the-rim opportunities, a place where Johnson excels because of his ball handling ability.
The thing is, he’s actually a great shooter. Just not usually a guy that is going to take a lot of shots right now. At 6’5 and with his handles and breakdown ability, he would be advantageous to take more shots where it would up his game to another level. Use that along with his extremely impressive rebounding ability and athleticism.
He just brings so much to the table right now and should be able to be a great scorer at the next level. Those attributes are just a few of the reasons why schools at the Mid-major level have been looking into the Fort Wayne area prospect.
Recently, Ozzie and some of his Horizon Christian teammates went on a visit to Kent State. He’s also been getting some initial interest and open gym visits from Toledo as well. From his trip to Kent State, Johnson got a good look at a potential landing spot in the future.
“I got to see the locker room meet all the players tour around campus the tailgate,” Johnson said of his visit. “Got to stay and watch the Kent state football game and watch the team practice my teammates Sydney Curry and Yuri Swinford also attended.
