Recruiting Report: Nigel Colvin (2019)
After transferring into River Rouge last season, Nigel Colvin spent half the season sitting out and the next half finding his way with the team.
Now, the 6-foot-1 guard is settled in, ready to make his mark, and prove that he’s deserving of his No. 21 ranking in Michigan’s 2019 class.
He’s hoping a big junior season not only boosts his team, but his somewhat stagnant recruitment, too.
“As far as people reaching out to me, there’s not too many yet. University of Chicago, I got something in the mail from them, and that’s really about it,” said Colvin.
“I’m still working towards more recruitment. I think I just need to be able to display my hard effort and talent, and I just need to get better and show it at the right time.”
A sharpshooter, Colvin has worked to become an adept slasher and distributor to pair. He discussed his improvements, on both ends of the floor, with PHMI.
“My skills are attacking the rim, and I’ve been working on my offense and having continuity within the offense and being able to get my teammates open,” said Colvin.
“On the defensive end, I’m working on being better; pressuring the ball, making people uncomfortable, and having a defensive presence all over the floor.”
He prepared for his junior season while playing with one of Michigan’s best 16U teams, Greenwood Elite.
“I played alright, we had a lot of guys who really understood the game and really knew how to play,” said Colvin. “It was fun playing with those guys, and it was a good learning experience.”
And now, settled in, he can start the season and finish it with the Panthers. And take what he learned last season — both while playing and observing — with him into this winter.
“I learned a lot from our senior guards last year, and I’ll have a bigger role this year, and will have to take their spot and their role,” said Colvin. “That will be a big task to fill.”
