Recruiting Report: Nate Ferguson (2019)
Lemont 2019 four man Nate Ferguson broke out on the scene this past summer. Extremely skilled big man that also has toughness. Scores on the block with his skill set and can pass out of the post. Has the ability to stretch the defense with his shot. Quality rebounder and is becoming a better post defender with his mobility and ability to anchor. D1 prospect that needs to be on the radar of low-major and potentially mid-major programs heading into the season.
Ferguson was among the premier post prospects at the PrepHoops Top 250 Expo this fall.
“It was really nice. Doing a lot of drills and stuff. I felt I got better. I performed pretty well. The first game was rough because I was getting warmed up. The second and third games I started getting loose and hitting some shots.”
This summer with Chicago Lockdown was huge for him.
“I kind of broke out of my shell and kind of exploded. My recruitment got a lot better. It was a good experience.”
He felt his overall skill game took a major step.
“Dribbling and shooting. I used to not be able to dribble if someone put pressure on me. I got a lot better at that.”
How much does his face up skill open up avenues to score on the block?
“If I am on the block and I have a bigger guy on me I am much quicker than him and I can go by him if I pop out a little.”
What is going on with recruiting?
“I have a lot more college interest. No offers yet. Some of the schools are Western Illinois, Belmont, Nebraska a little bit. I have visited Ferris State as well.”
Ferris State is a school he has seen in person.
“They were a good team. They compete with all the bigger schools. They look for good kids all around that don’t make it up to the D1 schools.”
What does he feel he can bring to a team at the next level?
“I am very versatile. I can bring up the ball if needed. I can shoot. I can beat my defender to spots.”
