Recruiting Report: Mitchell Goodbary (2019)
Six-foot-5, 215 pound junior power forward Mitchell Goodbary of Sioux Falls Christian is one of the more promising athletes in his class.
Goodbary is currently playing tight end and linebacker for the Chargers who are 5-1 on the season and when football is over Goodbary will be an important piece of the SFC basketball rotation.
Goodbary played with the talented South Dakota Attack squad that had an outstanding spring and summer, and Mitchell was a key piece of the success they had.
“The whole season was awesome but I would say the top highlight of the summer for me was playing down in Wichita in the Mullen’s Classic,” Goodbary stated. “The talent and competition that was at that tournament was some of the best I have ever played against.
“The biggest things that I feel I improved on over the summer were rebounding and my post game. I worked on going for every board and recognizing when I had a mismatch down low in the post.”
Mitchell wants to be a versatile player on both ends of the court. His goals? To score in several ways and to guard….everybody.
“The biggest focus for me is working on my quickness. Being able to beat a defender off the dibble and also being able to guard every position on the floor. Those are two things that I can really work on improving leading up to this season.”
What will the Charger line-up look like this year? Talented.
“We have a lot of talent coming back this year,” Mitch said. “All of us have played together for a long time and have learned how to play well with one another over the years. My goal for this team is to be the best team we can and hopefully make it to state and win a championship.”
Schools are already talking to Goodbary as versatile four men have become very important part of both NSIC and NAIA basketball.
“I have talked verbally to a few and have gotten some letters from University of Sioux Falls, Minnesota State-Morehead, and Morningside.”
Mitchell isn’t from Sioux Falls, his basketball origins are from further south. From the place that KD made himself a worldwide name.
“I grew up an Oklahoma City fan so I have always been a Kevin Durant fan,” Goodnary stated. “But I would say Lebron’s style of play has influenced me the most because he isn’t always looking to score and will make a great pass to a teammate or hustle for every rebound.”
