Recruiting Report: Kody Jones (2018)
Prescott High School brings back a good portion of a team that had some success last season. One of the key players on last year’s team was do-it-all 6’4 PG/SG Kody Jones. Jones, a 2018 prospect, only averaged a little over 5 points per game. However, he was able to make a huge impact in other ways. Jones will need to continue his solid production in order for Prescott to take the next step.
Kody Jones High School
Despite having a solid season last year, Jones has worked relentlessly to prepare for this upcoming season. In fact, as a means of improving his endurance and getting himself into better shape, he lost “55 pounds”. He credits the “changing [of] my eating habits and constantly being in the gym” for the transition.
In addition to trying to improve his endurance, he has worked on his vertical as well. The 6’4 PG/SG has gained “7 1/2 inches” to his vertical as a means of trying to make himself more athletic. Further, he has focused greatly on improving his ability to shoot the basketball from three.
Jones is an interesting prospect as he most likely is a 2 or 3 at the next level. If he can continue to improve his athleticism, he could potentially be capable of playing 1-3 at the next level. Although he has not been a strong scorer, he led the team in assists and rebounds last year.
If Jones is able to shoot the basketball better from deep, his game will expand greatly and make him more of a scoring threat. His goal for the upcoming season, on a personal level, is to be the “section player of the year”. If he is able to improve his scoring output, he could potentially have a couple of triple doubles due to all of the things he does for Prescott.
As far as the team is concerned, Jones would like to make a deep run in the state tournament. In fact, he noted, that if the team does “anything less than the semifinals” that he would consider it a “disappointment”.
Jones’ skill set and work ethic makes him a leader in this program. That leadership will assist Prescott in having success this season and aid him in finding a college. Keep an eye on Jones and Prescott this season.
Kody Jones College Interest
At this time, Jones has not received any college offers. He referred to the recruiting process as “quiet” at this point. However, he did note that he has received attention from “Embry Riddle” and has been in touch with “Head Coach Fundalewicz”.
Jones is an intriguing prospect who should receive college attention due to the array of ways that he can impact a game. He can guard 2-4 at many levels in college. Further, as he continues to improve his athleticism, he could guard some points as well.
Offensively, he crashes the glass well and finds his teammates at a high rate. His size gets him in the paint and forces the help side to commit. At which point, he does a good job of putting his teammates in spots to score the basketball.
Further, Jones is committed to his craft. He noted that twice a week, he drives to Phoenix, about a two hour drive, for practices with his club team, Blue Chip Nation. This dedication and determination mixed with his size could enable him to have a successful college experience.
