Recruiting Report (JuCo): Hunter Sipe
After finishing his Olympia career with some NAIA and D3 offers, 6-foot-3 shooting guard Hunter Sipe elected to take the JuCo route, and still has hopes to play D1 ball sometime soon.
He’s now a freshman at South Puget Sound CC, and explained to PHWA how his recruiting process led him to the area JuCo.
“They (South Puget Sound CC) had been recruiting me for awhile, since the beginning of my junior year. And I wasn’t sure if i was going to go there for awhile, because I had some D1 and D2 interest, picked up some NAIA offers. But that just wasn’t really what I wanted to do at the time,” said Sipe.
“So, South Puget Sound CC was the best situation for me, their style of play is what I like, the coaching staff is fantastic and it’s in my city. And hopefully after this season,0 I’ll get some more college interest, I’ll be here for two years then head to a four year.”
There is one Division I program in particular that the talented guard has his sights set on. He’s hoping that by the end of his time at SPSCC, the feeling will be mutual.
“The ultimate goal is D1, obviously. My top D1 school right now is Eastern Washington University, that’s my ultimate goal. But, honestly, any D2 in the Pacific Northwest is a viable option for me as well, if they’d be interested in me.”
Both of his parents graduated for Eastern Washington, and Sipe referred to the Cheney, WA school as a “family school.”
“I’ve talked to them for awhile, and it just didn’t work out going there after my senior year,” said Sipe. “So, hopefully I can continue the recruiting process with them and see what happens after this year.”
After finishing as his high school career as Washington’s 60th-ranked 2017, he continues to evolve and progress as a player. And, as a result, has high expectations as he heads into his first college season.
“I feel like I’ve really improved on my shooting skills. I’m more of a lethal shooter now, it’s definitely something I’ve worked on a lot and it’s become a bigger part of my game,” said Sipe.
“I have high goals for myself this year, and whatever role I play this year I’m going to do it my best. And hopefully work my way into more minutes, and do whatever it takes to make my team better.”
