Recruiting Report: Jake Lee (2018)
Petoskey 6-foot-5 forward, Jake Lee, currently checks in as Michigan’s 83rd-ranked 2018, is still very much available, and probably flying under the radar a bit.
There is one school in Big Sky Country that has in eye on him, though. And it’s the result of a Michigan connect.
“The school that has been talking with me the most has been Montana State University-Northern, and other than that, not really anyone else,” said Lee.
“They found out about me because one of their coaches, who is new out there, grew up in Michigan, and before he went out there he was doing some recruiting in Michigan and found me.”
Montana State-Northern is an NAIA program, and Lee says he’d embrace playing that level of ball, or any level for that matter.
“I’m just hoping to get a full-ride somewhere, I don’t care what level that it’s at. I just want to play and get my college paid for.”
A center turned combo-forward, Lee says he’s best while working the baseline, and says he’s working to make himself a more versatile threat.
“All growing up, I was stuck at a center most of the time, because I was the tallest guy on the team. But now, I can play more of a three, and with the guys I play with now, I’ll play a four, and will step outside and play there,” said Lee.
“Most of my shooting is mid-range, near the baseline. And I’ve been working on my 3 a lot, and that should be better this season.”
He added: “I’m a hustle player more than a skill-set player. If there’s a loose ball I’m going to hit the floor every time, whether I think I can get it or not.”
Now, as he heads into his senior season with the Northmen, he says his goal is to dominate the glass, and get Ws.
“My goal is to get 10 rebounds per game this year, and just do what I can offensively,” said Lee. “And then, I just want to win.”
