Recruiting Report: Gary Solomon (2018)
Last month, Detroit Edison 6-foot-5 shooting guard Gary Solomon decided to end his recruitment and commit to New York Division I program LIU-Brooklyn.
The talented senior — Michigan’s 33rd-ranked 2018 — chose the Blackbirds over Southern Mississippi and Rhode Island, both of which offered Solomon as well.
It just took one official visit, to Brooklyn, for Solomon to make his decision.
“It was just the environment, the coaching, staff, I just loved how they talked to me,” he said.
“It’s going to be a good fit for me, by me coming into that conference (Northeast Conference) to show my abilities and play what position I want to play, and how I want to play.”
Solomon is one of just a handful of guys who have made their college choice, rendering him a somewhat early commitment.
“I wanted to get it out of the way,” said Solomon. “So that I could be set and ready, and I could be dedicated and stay focused for my senior season.”
A slasher, who takes pride in his defense, Solomon will bring an athletic playmaker to the Blackbirds’ roster next winter.
“I’d say I make an impact on the court with my athleticism, being able to rebound, get to the basket, score, and just being an all-around defender,” said Solomon.
Last season, Solomon was sensational at Detroit Edison while averaging 21.9 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists per game. This season, he’s looking to strengthen his leadership, and bring a state title back to the Pioneers.
“My role is going to be big this year. Last year we went far and we saw a lot, we know what it takes now,” said Solomon. “It takes a lot of leadership, and I’ll need to step-up my leadership. And the goal is to win a state championship.”
