Recruiting Report: Garrett Jensen (2018)
Six-foot-1 guard Garrett Jensen of Minnewaska Area had a strong off-season with West Central United and is now ready for his senior season.
“During the off season I played 17u with West Central United, did a bunch of Breakdown tourneys with my Minnewaska High School team, ran track and lifted weights to get better in all sports,” Jensen told Prep Hoops.
“My junior year was good. We didn’t have many seniors so me and a lot of other juniors had to step up and fill that roll. We were good but we were also young.”
Minnewaska had four players score in double figures each night and three of them return. That is Jensen, Matt Gruber, and Jackson Johnsrud. With those three, and others back expectations are high.
“Our outlook for this season is to make a state run,” Jensen told NHR. “We have a bunch of returning guys since we were low on seniors last year. We also have younger kids stepping up and getting a lot of time.
“We are more experienced and have played together for a long time. We have a good chemistry.”
Goals for the program are very high.
“A goal is make it to the section finals. Have a better record than last year and just clean up the little things. Personally, I would like to see my team succeed. If we have kids do their role and play good ball, we will win games.”
Garrett is quite self drive so he wants to be more skilled when the season begins next month.
“I’m just improving on the basics,” Jensen said. “I’ve been working on my jumper and ball handling a lot more since I’ve been playing on the perimeter more.”
A few college programs have also began talking to Jensen about the next level.
“Crown College has been contacting me and I have visited there. I’m also planning on visiting NDSCS very soon.”
