Recruiting Report: Emmett Linton (2018)
When we last talked with Lincoln 6-foot point guard Emmett Linton last February, he was flying way under the radar.
After a big-time 17U season Seattle Swish, we bumped him up to 36th from 117th in the latest 2018 rankings, and some college programs are noticing him, too.
“Recruitment is slowly starting to pick up. I’ve been talking to a couple of JuCos, Casper College reached out, and one of my mentors told me that Portland State has been reaching out about me,” said Linton.
“In the winter, we go to a tournament in San Diego, and it’s one of the big Under Armour tournaments. So, if I can make a good impression on some coaches, they might watch me play there. And things should go up from there.”
Still with no offers, Linton is hoping to pick some late ones up this season,
“Over the winter, I expect to pick up a D1 offer. And be able to just lead my team and just prove everybody wrong, and do things that people didn’t think we could do.”
He’ll be the floor general and leader of the Abes, and will have to contribute in large doses on both ends of the floor this winter.
And it’s his busy spring and summer with Seattle Swish that helped him prep for his final high school season.
“I’m coming into a way bigger role this year with my team, so I’ve just been working on my overall game and finding different ways to score. And I’ve just been really grinding on that, and it’s been really translating out on the floor,” said Linton.
“I think I did really good this summer. We went to California and Vegas, and I pretty much dominated in those tournaments. We won a lot, and it felt good.”
He added: “I think I improved on being able to see the floor more, like different holes and different angles and being able to just take what the defense gives you.”
And with still one season left to showcase himself, Linton is ready to silence the doubters, and prove that he’s one of Washington’s best guards.
“It’s mainly going to be on me this season, and I’m going to have to lead and I’ve been working hard,” said Linton. “I want to go out there and show what I can do, and I really feel no one out there on the floor will be able to touch me.”
