Recruiting Report: Brandon Vernon (2019)
As we have said time and time again, the overall depth of the 2019 class is really outstanding. Some players were picking up interest very early on in their high school careers. One such prospect is Indianapolis Pike (IN) forward Brandon Vernon.
The 6’5 and growing shooter is among the state’s more interesting players. With a big frame and tons of room to grow, he’s a guy that has always been able to put up some points. He’s got a big frame and a growing game.
Over the last high school season, you saw Vernon shift from being just a guy that was going to shoot no matter what, to a player capable of putting the ball on the floor and creating. His ball handling has improved immensely and he’s added that extra dimension that college teams were wanting to see.
Brandon was a guy that was able to see the floor a bit as a freshman for Pike because of his dominant skill and size. This past season, he averaged 8.1 on a loaded roster. He shot 126 threes last season, hitting 33% of them. That is on the low end for him. He had multiple games last year where he hit 3 or more in a game. He had 8 of those games. It shows a little bit of streakiness but also the ability that he has to completely change a game.
Vernon was one of the first players in the 2019 class to pick up an offer as he did from IUPUI. However, he’s now picking up a new level of interest from teams like Wright State, Indiana State, Lipscomb, Ball State, Northern Kentucky, Belmont, and Purdue. He’s a guy that has his best game ahead of him and now with a much higher focus on the 2019 class nationally from Division I programs, things could just be starting for Vernon.
