Prospect Spotlight: Matt Norman
Timpanogos High School will have a very talented basketball team in this upcoming season. In fact, there is a good chance that the group will win their region. One of the key players that should be on everyone’s scouting report at this point is Matt Norman. Norman, a 6’4 SG 2019 prospect who plays with West Elite club, will continue to make noise this season.
Matt Norman High School
Timpanogos’ success will largely be connected to the play of Norman. Norman was the leading scorer for the group last year despite his youth.
Although it is easy to be impressed with a sophomore who led his team in scoring at the 5A level, it does not end there. Not only did he put up solid scoring numbers, but his shooting percentages were through the roof. He averaged over 2 three pointers per game while shooting it nearly 50% from deep.
His length and ability to extend the floor from deep make him an intriguing prospect. Further, as he continues to add muscle mass and improve his ability to get into the paint, the more interesting he will be to a number of suitors at the collegiate level.
In addition to being able to score the basketball at a high rate, Norman brings “leadership” to Timpanogos, and he feels that he can bring this to the next level as well. He embraces the role of being a playmaker and taking big time shots. When the game is on the line, he enjoys having the basketball in his hands.
As far as his goals for the upcoming season are concerned, he stated that he hopes to “make first team All-State”. Moreover, he wants to “lead my team to a state championship for the first time in school history”. Although that will be a tall task, Timpanogos has a solid group returning and Norman’s scoring as well as leadership should help with them having a lot of success.
Matt Norman College Interest
Norman is early in the recruiting process. However, he does have one offer from “SLCC”. Further, he has received from “University of North Carolina Greensboro, UVU, and SLCC”.
Although Norman is only a Junior, he has a good idea of what he is looking for in a college. He stated, “I’m looking for a school with coaches and players [who] are willing to help me become not only the best basketball player I can be, but to also help me learn and grow [to be] the best I can off the court.”
Further, he is hoping to “major in business” as he finds it “interesting”. He also noted that he wants “to go into sales and marketing in the future”. Thus, it is important to him to go to a school that has a “solid business program”.
Despite not being a finished product, Normon is certainly a college level prospect. He brings a lot to the table. Further, he has put in a lot of work this off-season to ensure that he is turning his weaknesses into strengths. This off-season, he worked on “getting stronger” while playing “against better competition”.
Norman had a solid Sophomore year and will be prepared to play big minutes for Timpanogos as a Junior. Check out Norman’s highlight tape on hudl to see clips of this skilled prospect.
